Advice needed re puncture repair?

Hi need some advice. Recently went on a ride over to the coast. Just after porters pass stopped for a break only to find a sharp stone embeded in my brand new 2ct pilot road 2 rear tyre. Pulled it out only to find that the tyre had a reasonable hole through it. Got out the never used puncture repair kit and put one of the repair chord through. Stopped the leak and then topped up the tyre via the co2 canister all good. Went onto Greymouth and went to the local bike shop for advice re the repair, They suggested that I have it repaired properly at the local tyre shop. Long story but eventually got the tyre off and to the local ITS tyre depot. The said no problem and duly vulcanised a patch on the inside of the tyre. All good back to the bike shop back on the rim and away again. Got home and thought better check the tyre and have noticed that there is still a 5mm tear in the tyre between the tread where the stone was removed. Thought that it would have been sealed up but hasn't. Would you replace the tyre/ repair again/ leave it alone?
Exceptionally annoying on a tyre that has only done 350km before the puncture.

The 'tear' should be filled by the plug fitted to the inside of the tyre which has a tail that protrudes through the puncture and is cut off flush with the outside. Or did they just use a flat patch on the inside? If so, that's a shit job and can easily puncture again in the same spot with another well placed stone or gradual accumulation of abrasive grit in the hole.

They just seem to put a flat patch on the inside. Can't see any plug protruding through. Might go and get it checked at local bike shop.

i had a puncture after 100ks on a Conti. Side-wall too. Bike shop said 'nah cant fix that, need a new tyre'.

I said 'throw a heavy duty tube in it' and they did. got 15000k out of that tyre. maybe an option for you?

I thought it was just me...

If I'm going to get a puncture it's going to happen in the first 1000kms of a new tyre being fitted. I did the tube trick with a Dunlop GT301 when I was a poor student when it holed majorly within mere hours of fitting it.

hah, same for me. i got home with new tires with less than 100k on them, next moring wanting to go for a ride see the shiny head of a nail in the back tyre.. nice. cycletreads did a good job of repair though, had no problems with it.

If you can take the wheel off and get to any tyre shop and get them to put an A6 minicombi in. Its a mushroom plug that we use in car tyres and I have put a fair few in bikes as well. Tyre will be good for life and you will never have a problem with that hole again.
