    Skunks Kaitoke 22-3-09 Round 1

Well, no one else has done a report but I will attempt one.

It was a dark and stormy night, that lead to a drizzling grey day. No wind, but no sun. About 6:30 I started loading up the bikes and gear into the van. Fortunately the drizzle stopped for me. Without coffee this takes far too long. Around 7:30 I was ready to head off. Stopped at Rimutex for Tui pie, coffee and cash. I believe this may have been a mistake that came but to haunt me later in the day...

B grade practice: I've put myself back to B grade as I'm being lapped by all the other A graders. Got one lap in before deciding I needed to do something about the footpegs. My feet kept slipping on them in the wet. I came in and taped them up. I rejoined practice on the last lap. Doh! Not feeling comfortable at all.

Non points race 1: I pushed my way to the front row of the grid as I know I can start well. Korea and Bysm1 were there with me. I got a 'odd' start. Bysm1 ahead of me bogs so I run into him. Then he's off so I nail it; but he's bogged again! The second shoke moves him outta the way and I'm off. Rode as hard as I dared (slow as a wet week) getting passed by Korea, Bysm1 and a couple of others. So bad in fact that I have swiped the result from my memory.

Points race 1: Started on the front row again () and got a good start. I can't remember who came past and who crashed but I did finish fifth due to carburation issues on the downhill straight which let b1kerb0b (MadAss #21) through. The bike and I both have a issue with wet weather...

Points race 2: Started on the front row again (practice makes perfect ), and having watched the FXR #20 have a big slide into the top sweeper last race, I decided I wanted to be in front of him. Second place behind 20 in the first two corners, past him on the inside at the hairpin and, abnormally, the bike pulls cleanly down the top straight into the sweeper. Alright I say, no one got through! Head down and I push as hard as I dare (just a few grams ) aware that there is an FXR, a CB and a MadAss on my tail. The bike is pulling cleanly for the first time today so I just keep going. Lap 4 or 5, I see the FXR on the trackside. Where's Bysm1 on the CB? Must be on my tail. I see the b1kerb0b opposite me on the hairpin so I know he's not far behind. Right oh, keep going, waiting for someone to pass me. White flag. Huh? Chequered flag. Wha...? Did I not notice being passed? Nope. First points win ever.

Had a drink in the cafe/bar on site and headed home. Been crook ever since ... If this is what happens when you win I don't want to win anymore.

Looking good out there mate - pics don't lie Except, of course, the camera makes the conditions look drier than they really were!
    It was drizzling all day...

I'll post another report when I achieve such lofty heights again. *snigger*
