Friday 3rd, received a PM. Which basically said Ride Sat..10am Rimutex...?

To which I replied, yup sweet as will be there.....

So 10am saw me at Rimutex and a few minutes later JamesDeuce and his mate Rob (from Auckland) arrived. Fuel and a bladder empty for the old fellas (Ps that's Jim2 and Rob.....) A quick run down on where we were actually going came from Jim2, as he was getting back on his bike...Oh we are off around the back lake road, Lake Ferry and then out to Ngawi and then back to Martinborough for lunch, he informs as he fires up the MotoGuzzi and rockets off......, followed closely by Rob on the BMW 1200 GS..

Yay, first decent trip on my new bike. First time over the Takas, in about a year. (Don't ask). So I was taking it easy both on the outbound journey and the journey home over here. Still getting used to the new bike, so was not pushing it at all...

The back road out to Lake Ferry was superb as always, couple of cars, nothing major. Now comes the interesting bit, as before I have always gone as far as Lake Ferry and then straight back to Martinborough, but wow, what a magnificent piece of road, from Lake Ferry out to Ngawi...A nice mix of corners and some straight bits, but everything just seemed to flow... One particular little patch Jim had informed us of was right near the clay cliffs, the powdery stuff on the road, makes for slippery going, so through this bit, slow down...

The photos were taken before we got to the cliffs....

Ngawi - well it is the arse end of nowwhere but awesome little spot, campervans and surfers abound. Fishing boats and all the nicknacks. A good set of public loo's as well. There is even a place to get hot/cold food, and drinks. (Yup they even have eftpos)

So we pulled up in Ngawi, and hopped off the bikes. Next thing Rob comes over map in hand, frothing at the mouth, and doing little jumps, as he has seen the sign to Cape Palliser. Looks at the pair of us and says "do we mind if he goes out to the Cape", as "It would be rude not to"....Sure Rob go for it, says J2, Rob.....Rob....Nope too late he can't hear you any longer Jim, as we watched the dust ploom fade around the corner. Bloody Adventure riders.

So that left J2 and myself to have a cool drink and sit in the shade and chat, until we see's the mighty adventure rider return with a huge grin on his face. Worth the effort.....I think so..

So after Rob has a bit of a break, we saddle up again and head for Martinborough as by now the tum's are starting to growl at not being fed. So back the way we came, and into martinborough, and Toppy's for lunch. Superb as always...

Then it was home time. Back over the taka's I once again took it easy, J2 and Rob dissapeared off into the distance and waited for me at the info centre before Upper Hutt....Quick chat and off our seperate ways.

Just shy of 290km's for the day for me. Total k's on the bike now 2092..

Bloody brilliant way to spend a Saturday...

    Some pictures!

Fantastic day to be out and it's a total hoot to go for a ride with a couple of enthusiasts.

We saw the Hitchers heading out to Ngawi on our return. There were gestures, but they were obviously intent on their destination.

Ngawi has to be one of the most rugged settlements in the Nth Is, despite the mostly sealed road out there now and is populated by people who aren't afraid to look after each other's property. It's also home to some of the highest recorded coastal wind gusts in NZ.

The surf break was pretty awesome to watch on the way in and there were some people out there enjoying it. Unfortunately the wind came up and flattened it by the time we headed back to Martinborough.

Huge thanks are due to Mr and Mrs Nudemetalz for lending me their beloved V11 after my bike got blown over. I went to school with gunnyrob and he was one of my Groomsmen and I hardly ever get to see him these days. Scooterazzi have done some great work on that particular Guzzi and it now has a midrange that had gone AWOL the last time I rode it. Such brilliant fun to ride too, though it is easy to get frustrated when the corners dry up.

Nice wee romp.....but shame on you for not sampling the 5star Ngawi pie cart! Their Egg & Pineapple Burger (with beetroot and melted cheese) is as good as the ride out there.

Beetroot is disgusting winter stock feed. It's texture is vomit inducing and I'd rather eat over cooked brussel sprouts.

Nah...sliced, diced, relished or mini whole jobbies all go down a treat. Brussel sprouts on the other hand...I'd rather eat fungus!

I thinks that if I had sampled any food at Ngawi, I would have gotten the garfields. Would have felt full and lazy and would have layed out in the sun and gone to sleep. Next time ...

Thanks for the ride guys, It was a friggin pleasure riding with you.

Rode back to Auckland via the Rimutakas (what a beut road) and the Paihiatua track for shits & giggles. Was planning to go up through Jerusalem, but the weather clagged in quite badly so went up via Waiouru, & National Park.

Another 2,200 kms on the Beemer over the week & a bit. Huzzah!

Sweet as Rob, enjoyed the company.....

Took advantage of the brief patch of good weather today and went over the Taka's and had lunch at Toppy's again. * Coffee machine was in service this time...

    Catch you next time
