What do you have to do to do fsae? Whats your part in it? sorry for all the questions, its just interesting to me haha
Technically to be in an FSAE team you just need to go to a university that has a team and be enrolled in a degree. Realistically, you need to be doing engineering (we have a few others in the team that look after finance, marketing etc).

My role in the team is co-chief engineer (I look after the vehicle dynamics side of things and another guy does powertrain). Last year I was chief engineer, year before I was team leader. I don't mind the questions, this thing is basicaly my life at present and I always enjoy talking about it

skidMark - who were your buddies? Johan, Jeremy, Craig?

I should have went up and had a closer look at it at paeroa. Is it going to be on display anywhere else any time soon? The thing I was watching, they said atleast one of their team members/students a year goes on to an F1 team or other racing class. Is that what you're going to try to do?

The next event we're likely to attend is the Auckland domain hillclimb, which is in early May I think. We have 2 former team members working for an F1 team, an heaps in local motorsport teams, especially Formula Toyotas. My ambitions are probably a bit more entreprenurial than joining an F1 team.

skidmark - that SCC visit was quite a while ago, either before I joined or not long after I did, either way I don't remember anyone having a GSXR back then

Welcome, and good choice of bike. i started on one of those a while back, and I remember too well the feelings of being a complete novice, especially when riding out in the country at night...very overwhelming. I might suggest a few track days and you will speed ahead in learning this whole new riding thing.
Hope to see you on a ride!
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.

Ok, I thought about this a bit and I have no idea what you mean when you say "id recommend something to the nass on Wednesday nights"

Cheers to the rest of you for the welcomes - hopefully I'll make it out to something sometime
