BTW - I was thinking about your remark saying that Henry's comments were sexist. I don't see how, as it was a remark about her personal appearance, rather than women as a whole. For example there have been plenty of comments in the media about Koro Wetere's "comb-over" (I heard a comment on National Radio just the other day, by coincidence) - is this sexist?

In fact, how does this differ from the subject matter?
Is it only bad to comment on a woman's appearance?
HART?? Well ya gone up a notch on my scale.

Yes I do see it as sexist comment. First and foremost the lady in question has every right to appear as she pleases. That is a fundamental choice and this is often quoted here on KB.

Henry’s comments become sexist when he applies a standard that is expected, in as much that woman should not have facial hair. This in itself is a perception of what is considered by our society to be unacceptable on a woman. What Henry fails to recognize is one of choice and it goes without saying any comments on anyone’s personal appearance………….especially when they do not have the right of reply is both arrogant and repugnant.

Oh stop being a panty wetter Skyryder. Woman should not have facial hair. The only exceptions are lesbians, greenies and grandmothers.

Yeah, but 1981 was a while ago - some of the people who tried to bust my head are actually speaking to me again..

Anyway, now relate it to Mr. Wetere.
Why is it OK (and not sexist) to take the piss outta him?

I have no knowledge of Wetere's comb over so can not comment as to whether any comments on his combover are sexist or not

However there are some salient points on sexist comments that differ from normal comments.

First and foremost is that a sexist comment is made by one sex about the other. The comment fails the sexist 'test' for want of a better word when the comment is made concerning ones 'own' sex. So in the case of
Wetere if the comment was made by a female then it may well have been 'sexist' but if by a male then no. It is not so much the comment itself but more to do with the sex of the person who is making it.

The second point that needs addressing is that sexism is usualy associated with some kind of comment that is unflattering and where a double standard is used. As I am unware of the comments concerning Wetere I can not offer an opinion on this.

Paul Henry is the only thing I bother to watch on TV1. If they got rid of him they mayswell shut down the entire channel.

Seriously anyone who was offended by this needs to fuck right off and move to some gay PC country..

Yeah...I'm just wondering if anyone else is aware that 'Spade' is a derogatory term for the people now known as African Americans?

Perhaps Nicky Watson could cut a yard off her own haystack and extend a strand to her friend to prevent a Koro Wetere comb-over letting the side down (or up) when the wind is blowing the wrong way while they’re on location.
The Author is Jane Bowron, and I do not recall a fuss over this. It's definitely sexist by your definition (and in such a lefty mag, too- tut tut..)

The trademark comb-over is long gone. Former Maori Affairs Minister Koro Wetere has conceded defeat in the follicle cover-up.
This was by a man: Jon Stokes

This Wetere reference has been around for years, and shows the double standard in our society allows denigration of mens appearance but not wimmin.
Maybe a subject for another thread...

    Flippant?
Did you ask Koro if he thinks its flippant?
Are you saying he couldn't be offended because he's a man?

Lets get real here, despite my earlier comments (forgive me if I sometimes disguise my true opinion in the interests of a good argument), I think Henry crossed the line (having said that, I do think the reaction is hysterical, and sexist).
Derogatory comments on anyone's appearance, be they male or female, is uncouth. As the comment is directed at one person, the offense caused therein can only really be experienced by that one person. So who are you to say that the mustache comment was more or less hurtful and/or distasteful than the comb comment?

This is the gay PC country.
Those that laugh at others misfortune usually can not laugh at their own.

There are exceptions and I will give you the benifit of the doubt.

Occasionly Finn does get some humour directed at me that on occasions brings a smile to my face.

Occasionally I write about my misfortunes for Kiwi Rider.
Hell, sometimes I even get paid...(but most of the time I do it for the laugh).
