C109RT exhaust mods?

Hey Ya'll, I ride a suzuki C109RT, its the same bike as an M109r. It's just set up as a touring bike. Has anyone ever modified the exhaust on these bikes? cut out baffle, or drilled holes in the end of the exhaust next to the baffle. and if so. how where and how big. and then the results. I would love just a little bit of sound with a low rumble, nothing loud. you know kind of sleeper sound with balls. of course, these bikes are sleepers. any help is appreciated. thanks Jack

Is the pipe different to the 109R as they have a nice note from stock.

As far as drilling holes in the end - this usually results i a kind of puff-puff-puff sound that is a bit naff.

I did some surgery on the outlets of my Hornet - the stock has a 25mm tube that heads way back into the pipe - I cut out the end with a hole saw - removed the 25mm tube and replaced with a 35mm one and a new end cap - there are images in my profile albums under 'my hornet 900' - its a nice deep tone now -still fairly mild but at least I can hear it until I build replacement mufflers (ah projects).

I imagine you could do something similar with your Suzuki - or check trade me under mufflers - there is a guy in Canterbury selling 'kits' for Ducatis - they core the stock pipe and weld in a perforated core wrapped in packing. - same effect as a aftermarket slip-on but retaining the stock can.

Any decent muffler maker should be able to 'adjust' your stock pipe - finding someone who will take suitable care while doing it may be a different matter....... where are you living?

I live in Alabam, east central part of the state. I don't know anyone that modifies pipes. I am capable of doing it. I'm a steel fabricator. I just dont have the knowledge of what needs to be done to aquire that sound i want.

Steel fabricator - right up your alley then!

Below is a picture of your typical aftermarket muffler - a central core with perforations in it - either holes or small louvers - wrapped in steel wool and or high temp packing.

Hell, mate order some cones and make yourself a unique set of mufflers for your 109.

If you want to keep the stock pipes you will need to gut the existing internal baffles and work out a method of fitting the core and packing plus a new end-cap.

As far a noise goes - if they are too loud make up a outlet reducer for the end of the muffler - smaller outlet tube = less noise.
