The main race at Daytona has always been the 200, before 1985/6 it use to be F1 with 500cc two strokes and the like, then the decision was made to switch the event to a 750cc four stroke class. Honda cleaned up with the likes of Freddie Spencer, Fred Merkel, Wayne Rainey etc. This year the decision was made to switch to a Formula Extreme class which is hot rodded 600cc four strokes, so the Superbike race has been pushed aside as the premier event. Mladin won from Hodgson on a Duc, with Suzuki riders Ben Spies and Aaron Yates 3rd and 4th.
The 200 on FX600's is at the moment a bit of a joke, duHamel, from Kurtis Roberts and Jake Zemke all CBR600RR mounted, rest of the field seemed to be privateers. Its caused a fair bit of controversy as you could imagine. Honda really fought for this new FX600 class, and most feel its because the CBR600RR is uncompetitive in Supersport trim in the USA, its seems too heavy, ie not a single CBR600RR in the top 15 in the supersport race at Daytona . Most feel Honda have bought another championship, and flexed their corporate muscle to get the FX600 instated as the premier event. Or maybe this is the way of the future, will the World Supersport title be the #1 production bike title? and will MotoGP become 600cc based? Who knows, could happen......

    You would though Stevo.
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods
