But considering the number of garages and buildings there are - steel framed one would be a small % - but steel framed ones made up a disproportional number of damaged, collapsed garages and sheds

No skin off my nose if you don't want to know

Today the digger arrived to dig my footings for my 9x12 steel frame - bought it second hand on TM for $3300. last year.

The shed was in my town and just a kilometer away hows that! so in a couple of weeks we will be round there with cordless drills dissassembling it.

It took my council - Hauraki district 5 months to issue my permit.
no excuses- no reasons jusst shit service. it took a letter to the mayor to get it released, turned out that it was signed and ready to go on Jan 20 but had sat on a desk since then GGRRRRRR!

Total all up price for my job should be about $7000.
    Lets see- ha ha!

Ive got 11 bikes, they will stay living in the electrified shipping container.
No point in putting .6mm of galv steel between them and the crims. I muck prefer 3mm of corten hi tensile and a 30,000volt zapper!
Retired- just some guy with a few bikes......

Thanks for all the advice. Security is always a concern and coming from the UK makes you extra paranoid. Think as I'll be lining the garage with wood it should provide an extra barrier for the crims.

    Thanks again.

the biggest mistakes I made in speccing my garage (6 x 7.2)

It isnt insulated (too hot in summer, too cold in winter); and

ITS TOO SMALL. Need more space.

Yeah! Always build as big as you can.

Forgot about heat - worth putting something in to vent the air. I'm toying with the idea of another tilta-door in the far end so can exit, and open for air movement.

Also - if you can afford it, put building paper around the inside, that way you can later line it if you want, turn part of it into an office etc.
