Swing arm modifications?

this should maybe be in maintenance, but its not really a maintenance issue, so here goes.
I want to know about putting a single sided swingarm on my bike, CBR600, 1991. Now Ive seen photos of it done to another one (along with alot of other mods as well, will attach a pic of it if I can)
Now I would be interested to do this to mine, so I have some questions, what single sided swing arms would, or might fit?
I know that a different length swingarm will affect the bikes handling, so will keep this in mind
What, if any, is the difference in handling between single sided, and regular swingarms?
Do single sided swingarms chew through their bearings faster than standard swingarms?
Any advice or ideas would be appreciated, also any input from someone who has done similar mods before.
I am guessing that I would be having to get a new swingarm, wheel, brake caliper (or would I be able to utilise the existing one with so mods?) , disc to do this, as well as maybe a shock if the mount is in a different place, and cant be modified to fit. Anything else I havent thought of? I know its a big task, but what the hell, its getting to winter now anyway!

Frankly the biggest issue is going to be the inter-relation of the shock and the linkage. If the mounting etc is different that is going to affect the motion ratio that is imparted to the shock. The chances of it all turning pear shaped are greater than it working well. Both eyes wide open. My advice, dont do it.

Ok, in light of that what Id be doing is confirming that beyond all doubt, that it is well documented and that the result is good. ''Strength in numbers'' as it were.

Ive been on a dedicated CBR forum, and according to the lads on there, its a relatively common modification, So am waiting on some details on EXACTLY how to do it before I invest the cash

Be sure to find one in good condition, the wheel bearing incorporates the chain adjuster. As a reference the bearings for the NC30 VFR400's are about $900 a pop!

As you posted a bike specific forum is the place to go,as Mr Taylor posted be very careful what advice you follow,as you can imagine doing it and doing it so that it works are vastly different things and not to be undertaken lightly.Nice to have something different for sure though any claims on improvement in handling etc would be very doubtful to put it lightly.Ive a wee project on the go re sssa with my old TLS (if i dont sell it) and believe me its not a simple task.Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

I want it done right if I do it at all. Have found out so far that the VFR400 swinger fits the CBR400, but for my 600 I need the VFR 750 swinger. I have sourced the parts I need, swingarnm, rear wheel, brake caliper and disc, for $400 from someone I have bought parts from several times in the past, all with a satisfactory result, so should be an issue for good condition. The only real difficult part I think is getting some one trustworthy to do any minor mods to the swinger so it all fits up properly. I worked as an engineer further south before I came down here, but dont have any tools anymore, and dont know anyone with the tools to borrow
Only other issue for me is working out a total cost etc, so will probably be a while before it gets done if I can do it.
I cant really imagine the handling would be any BETTER, Im just wanting to try find out how much it will negatively affect it at all before I go ahead

Fair call,theres an SV650 round with a VFR swinger on it,interesting,got pics somewhere,will try and hunt them out.
