Bugger becoming a republic imo. Whilst Helen Clark & her marxist liberal government is the worst thing that happened to this country since well ever, it really could be worse.. We could be a republic and have some twat like dubya in power.God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us;
God save the Queen!
O Lord our God arise,
Scatter her enemies
And make them fall;
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all!
Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign;
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen!
Whilst I'm ranting, that lot who want to change our flag need a bloody good kicking imo. I was watching some old Billy T reruns the other day, and they were taking the piss out of this liberal dude Nigel (from Pakehas awash with guilt), and I couldnt help but think that these jokers who want to get rid of the "colonial" influence of our flag must belong to that same group :-)
As far as I'm concered we a british colony, we will always be part of the commonwealth and the british empire, and anyone who disagrees should be tried for high treason against the crown & shot at dawn.

They always miss my favorite verse (5):
Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the Queen!
Reet Lud, yeer in fer a kickin'. Stitch this, Jimmeh! ;POriginally Posted by Oscar
Is that a real verse of our "glorious" anthem or a parody? Can't say I've heard the whole anthem recently enough to know what's in it.
As LiasTZ is well aware, I'm one of those republicans he wants to kick/shoot at dawn - and that's only because I know we can't realistically go back to a tribal culture.
If we have to have some form of centralised government, at least let it be our own and not some overseas mob that seems to think that having ancestors that systematically murdered any opposition is a "Divine Right" to rule...
I had murderous ancestors too, but you don't catch me running around claiming a God-given Mandate to Rule. (I suppose it's a matter of who your ancestors murdered and obviously mine didn't aim high enough)
I'm one of the ones who voted for a referendum on the changing of the flag and I'd be right behind any move towards a Republic.
I'm also right behind any moves towards "Home Rule" for Scotland, Cornwall, Isle of Man and Cymru ("Wales" in the Saxon tongue) and the withdrawal of English tyranny from Northern Eire.
As to calling that chinless, big-eared, adulterous git the "Prince of Wales", well, as the Python boys said: "I didn't vote for ya."
Best thing the monarchy ever had was cheated on by the "chinless wonder" and then died while being hounded by culture vultures - and I don't really buy the official line about her death either.
Motorbike Camping for the win!

What is being proposed by some wingnuts is a silver fern on a black background. Firstly, I'll think you'll find the NZRFU has a copyright on that and secondly (and more importantly), what sort of fucking country has a black flag!!! The other proposals I saw looked more like trademarks.
BTW - The Welsh language is Celtic, Cornwall is part of England and the Isle of Man is not. As for "English tyranny" you obviously have not the first clue of the issues, otherwise you would not have made such an ignorant and inflammatory remark.
And people wonder why Scots hate the so called British national anthem :spudwhat:Originally Posted by Oscar
Well - not quite true, but mostly. The Welsh language actually predates the peaceful migration of the Celts into Wales. Although it is heavily influenced by the Celtic language. Cymru is the Celtic name for Wales. Cymru is also written in big letters below a dragon on my left arm.Originally Posted by Oscar
Is now. Although here is a growing contingent of Cornish people vying for independence.Originally Posted by Oscar
Cornwall used to be part of Wales, hence the fact that the Cornish language is almost identical to Welsh (as is Breton). Cumbria used to be part of Wales as well. If my memory serves me correct it fell under the rule of an English Earl in around 700 AD. The Earle in question fought against the English monarchy of time. The monarchy won the war and therefore gained control over Cumbria and a small part of Yorkshire in the process.
Yokai youre an expert on these things. Can you fill in the gaps?
