    East V West

Watching the weather tonight and it was reported that Kaikoura is the only town on South Islands East coast that can see the sun set on the water. The live shots proved this is indeed correct.
Last year, we were at Waihau Bay (on the west side of the east cape) and saw the same thing, I was certain I was looking (at the very least) North?

Very weird, to see the sun set on the water while on the east coast.

    Thats too easy....
At Waihau, we were obviously facing west and with no land mass in front, explains it, but Kaikoura?...I guess it also must be somehow facing west? but if the earth was flat, the maybe Blenhiem would get in the way?

It does set behind the land, it just juts out there you may get the same thing from Banks Peninsular at the right time of year.
I took these two photos from an Island in Texas 10km from the mainland, behind that another 1000km of land but looks like its setting on the water…

I guess they don't consider Moeraki or Portobello towns then.
    Time to ride
