I was 34 when I bought my VTR250 in Aussie. Learnt to ride, got my full license, and took a ride with some mates to watch a post classic meeting at Wakefield Park. Included in the programme was bucket racing.

I was 35 when I started racing the CB125T with the PCRA and BRA in 'stralia. First race meeting was at Wakefield Park, just north of Canberra. Brilliant little track for bucket racers, but way too small for serious SS or SB racing.

Gave the racing away when I came back to Unzud in 2004, but am now setting up my 07 GSX-R600 for track days this year and Clubmans with VMCC in 2010.

I was around 20 when I started racing bucket sidecars. Also raced a solo. Then moved on to hare scrambles and motocross with the odd enduro.

1976 - Hamilton street races TM125 (age 22), Manfield Suzuki GT750. Then nothing until Cliffhanger (06,07,08,09) then VMCC 2008

hmmm i must be gettin old. started way back in 1986 on a TZR250. Then onto a FZR400 then a FZR750, then had a break, well several actually, after a big highside. Took a rest for a couple o years then got back on a ZX7RR. Bloody mental thing, it tried to kill me often. finished racing in 2002 after a neck breaking highside. Now just do mechanicing. more stress but less danger ehehehehe.

Our boy has just turned 13. He has been working really hard to pay for a KX85. It has taken a couple of months and alot of hard work on his part.

After spending his birthday riding at Taupo on a Suzuki RG150, he came to Frosty tonight and said,

'Dad......if I sell my dirt bike can I go racing?'

Great reading your replys so far those who have told us how they started racing, very interesting. Keep them coming in as Im sure there are alot of you out there who sure have got some awesome stories to share with those on here who are interested like I am in knowing how and when and where your racing all started. Also include if it started from a member in your family (Father or Uncle) or thru a mate of yours.

17 or 18 I think. Bucket racing at the track in the Wiri container terminal.
CB100 bucket then onto a "real" racebike -a MB50 bucket.
    Then 250 proddy on a yamaha 250.
Did 250 proddy and bracket racing ( a.b.c and d grade) for awhile.
Raced the old club track at Pukie. The manukau street race, whanganui, manfeild,Tauranga.Whangarei street race. Bomont street race
Threw in a full nationals somewhere.
I fucked up by buying a TZR250 reverse cylinder thing that kept blowing up
To be honest I got bored with always beeing broke after a few years.

I was 20 and i was told to do it by Robert Holden and his then girlfriend Joanne .
It was at the Gracefield track and i rode my CB400/4 which i rode from home (about 4 kms away) without all the road gear on it , then i rode it home after to fix all the bend stuff from a small crash lol.
I stopped when i retired the first time in 1991 and then restarted in (i think ) 2004 in clubmans on a CBR400rr and did until i gave the bike to Nicksta to thrash and shes been doing it since
Bikes i raced , CB400/4 stock and then with full HRC based motor etc ,
    CBR600 Hurricane, NS400r , VFR750, CB1100r , RCB980 F1, MVX250 (we all have to suffer) , GB400 , plus a host of other borrowed bikes i cant recall.

Best bike , RCB980F1 , so much power and yet such a challenge in the
corners lol that was a challenge if i ever saw one

Highlite ....... meeting all the heroes i still hold true as such.
Low Point ..... Attending Robert Holdens funeral. R.I.P. #1.

    Paul.
