The search function?

So I often see threads on here, where someone, often a newbie, asks a question, and they gets several people respond with :"have you tried the search function".
Now, dont get me wrong, I dont really care, but it did cross my mind that, 1) who the hell is going going to go and use the thread search EVERY time they want to start a thread to make sure it hasnt been done before, and 2) it cracks me up that people go to the extant of saying "theres a thread on that already on here", now, if youve gone to the trouble of looking at the thread, and replying, wouldnt it be just as easy to actually answer the question? lol, I mean, if you know theres already a thread on it on here, you have probably read it (to know) and know the answer...
I dont really care, this isnt a rant, just a thought, I like that I can ask a question or bring up a topic, and 99% of people are more than happy to engage in conversation about a topic, and I like that, its bloody good to know that there are a bunch of good buggers on here that are always willing to help out.

We're all a bunch of good buggers just wanting to help out, its just that its tiring answering the same question over and over, and really, its the newbies job to do the legwork, not the oldies.

"I can't be bothered searching for the information I want. I'll just post a thread, asking others to find the information for me, and then post it up. If they don't do so, they must be lazy and ignorant."

Yes... I use search a lot...

It helps me find the information I need, without creating the thousandth thread on it, where some poor bastard can't be bothered re-typing everything they wrote the first time around anyway...

Please use the search function before starting a thread asking a question, there is a good chance it has been asked before and answered before and if newbies (and even some of us who've been here too long) asked questions without searching for the answer first then we'd have daily "Why don't Harley riders wave back?" "What tyres should I buy" "What is the best learners bike", stupid and lame jokes and "look at the guy who face planted the back of a truck" blah blah blah thread every day.
I use the search function a lot, think of it like a library catalog, I've never walked into a library in search of info on something and didn't have to use some form of search for it first, KB's like that.

Filtering.
Fuel consumption comparisons.
Distances travelled in a year.

I agree though,...and sometimes relevant information has been superceded, so it's pertinant to re-submit the question,...or at least re-word it.

But of course not all searches are the same, there are two basic different types, usually taught us at a young age....The male search and the female search systems....

Starts off with ..Mum, have you seen my...? Usually there is a reply with its under your...or its there, just have a proper look...

Later in life its Honey have seen my....? early in married life the answer is usually the same...Its under your....

But now we cut cut to the chase with out the niceties...

Honey have you seee.....when we are promply cutoff with..You'll find it if you go back and have a womens look! (and she is usually right.)

What led to that? Trudes logical rational post vs the blokes emotive posts.

It's fun to post on a biker website, so leave them to it. Angrily stamping on some newbie for it just makes a person look a like a jerk, probably because they are a jerk.

Newbies don't offend - it is the TAKING of offense that is done, and that is not by the newbie. If people can't politely respond to a newbish question then don't respond at all - surely they have something more productive to do, and its not like someone else on the site can't handle it.
