Well I don't agree with your point. If you can get prisoners to do labour and thus save costs, you can use the money elsewhere on other projects, such as building more prisons.

A cycleway project covering such a large geographical area would be difficulty to co-ordinate and also manage a labour force. Prisoners would be ideally suited because they don't have to travel back to their families etc.

It's not my point. It's John Key's. You won't see him using convict labour in a recession, just like you'd never see any Government using convict labour in a recession. Using convict labour costs the tax payer money, it isn't an economic gain.

It isn't difficult to coordinate. There are much bigger projects going on all over the country. The logistics are part of the project and it is just something to manage. People being paid to work on a project like this will live rougher than any prisoner would. Prisoners have rights you see.

Keep the convicts locked up. There will be plenty of unemployed people available to be deployed on cycleway endeavour in the not too distant future, if the economic gloomsayers are to be believed.

Keep them locked up. Why give them [prisoners] freedom outside of the prison? Would increase chances of escape and can you imagine the possibilities for abuse? Bury stuff in the concrete and dig up up years later etc... babies, guns, evidence...

Fuck the cyclists they already treat the road like they own it someone should stick their head up and tell them that the don't own the road. Motorcyclists own the fookin roads and the term Motorcyclist does not include poxy scooter and trike riders either!
