Dam, too old and hairy for a brolly girl. Could do a small donation. Like I said in another thread. I can no see why we could not start grant thingy for dudes and dudettes like this. We could donate bike stuff to be auctioned and the funds go it to an account set up for these grants.

I run a website called ubuy that does credit card payments etc....

Would be happy to setup a mechanism to donate money to an organisation if someone had the time to set one up.

Im a total newbi myself, been out to two Manfeild track days... crashed last session of each but goddamn,... i had a good time!

See y'all at Vic series on manfeild, and thanks to those who have been helping me out there.

Firstly Hi and welcome to KB

    2. Was thinking that it might be a good idea if our racers post a 'wish list' on here - perhaps each one could have their own wish list thread in the Racing forum and people take it from there?? I know some might feel a bit funny about doing this, but in the cut throat world of racing you need to be a little bit cheeky and seize every opportunity you can get. So start your threads Motoracer, Two Smoker, XJFrosty, Nicko, Kwaka Kid, Sparky Bill - who else is there on here that races??? Also it would be cool if they post which races they intend doing in the next year, their goals and aspirations, what times they are currently doing and what they think they can realistically achieve, if they intend to move into another class for racing, whether they will be upgrading to another bike etc.

    3. Whenever I feel I can spare $20 I will buy petrol vouchers - I think with those MTA ones you can buy anything you want at a petrol station and they're also accepted at some workshops as well. To me this would seem the most practical way of assisting with finance. I will then pass them on to whichever racer is in my good books at the time!!!

    Here's my idea.

Pit help etc is great but what racing really requires is MONEY. I figure there are quite a few racers here and we'd all like some help but how about this. We put up a pay pal racer fund donation thingie on the site. Then Kiwibiker uses that money to sponsor ONE Rider for a whole season. That rider would have to promote the site and put Kiwbiker stickers on their bike, and provide race reports etc. If we only sponsor One Rider it might be enough cash to make a difference - even if its only 1 or 2 hundie. It would all help. If we tried to sponsor the twenty odd racers + on this site everybody would get 9/8ths of stuff all.

    How to choose the rider?

Post a thread where racers who want to win the sponsorship put foward their case. The thread has a closing date and then all Kiwibiker members vote on who wins the sponsorship. Ideally choose someone up and coming with potential and drive to want to win national cahmpionship events; not washed up has beens. Like me.

    Good idea? bad idea?

Good idea, pit crew magically turn up when you crash (thanks heaps guys!), but the real struggle is tyres and stuff. At $500 a pair I try and make one set last all season - feel sorry for the guys on the 600's.

Try to remember, sponsorship should be a 2 way thing. The racer gets some help, but he needs to promote whoever is supporting them. What does KB get out of it? Hopefully more members and more donations to keep the site running?

Actually it would be good to have a sticky thread somewhere that says who races, where and in what classes.

Just an idea of what sort of costs we endure through per race provided that everything runs smoothly.

    Race meeting at Manfield:

Fuel for return trip in the van: $180
    Fuel for the bike: $35
    Accommodation: $20
    Entry fee: $65
    Food/Drinks: $20
    Oil+Oil filter: $65
Tires: $120 (I run 2 races per set and sell em for $350 second hand)

I'll be doing 6 races in Manfield this year (the costs will vary a bit).

Then there is still racing in Taupo and Pukekohe in between to train for the Manfield races and also the Street circuits like Wanganui and Paeroa. If I decide to do a track day then that is also an extra cost.

Rego/Wof for my van that I only use for bike related matters also costs me a good 600 - 700 dollars a year cause it's old and constantly needs rust repairs etc.

Then it's little bits and pieces like brake pads, chain-sprockets etc. etc. which will also be an additional cost.

After doing all this, I still have to some how save up with some money aside for a bike for next season, a second hand K4 or K5.

So yea, the costs are pretty ridiculous but at least I am not wasting what I have on drugs or alcohol. In my spare time, I'll either be working, on KB or working on the bike. On rare occasions when I get some spare time, I get to socialise with my mates.

If you guys and girls do want to help one of us, please don't be put off by the tremendous costs involved. Whatever donations or help you can offer will help us for just that much and it will make a difference.

My costs are similar to MR's....

Im also fixing my K5 so i can race that at the end of 2005...

Race day usually costs around $300 just for accom. race entry, oil and gas, and getting there...

I spend $400 on tyres and sell them for $150 after 2-3 race days...

Also fixing of bikes, such as my clutch, brakes etc all adds upto around $700 + the other things such as chains, brake pads etc...

Pretty much ALL i earn through working goes straight into racing and my bikes...

That is just for my F3 bike... The cost will increase more when i start racing 600 Supersport...

Im currently doing 1:09.75's around Puke. Im going to be doing all the racing that i can such as all of the Vic club series, the rest of PMCC series and other races that pop up...

Ive got asperations to take my racing as far as it can go... 600 supersport at the end of the year, and Superbikes in 2007...

Racing is a VERY expensive sport. We are all (with one exception -Nicko )
    still racing at club level.
I do agree money is what keeps the wheels spinning but sometimes its a simple matter of manpower.
Heres an example of the simple stuff im struggling to find the time to do.
Pick up rear shock from Mr bruin
Pick up repaired leathers from MSW
Pick up toe scrapers from haldanes.
    Get tyres fitted to bike
Thats the simple stuff ya just don't have time for.
    Then theres at the track.
Measure correct amount of fuel to last the race.
    Tyre pressures correct.
    Chain lubed /correct tension.
    battery on charge.
    Bike warmed up
    Tyre warmers off.
    Battery charger disconnected.
Bike off pitstand ready to race.
simple stuff for sure but its the simple stuff that can disturb your focus on the day.

I aint even going to begin adding up the cost of racing for me this season
Lets just say the national debt is growing slower

Wow guys, an amazing thread. -and what to even have my name mentioned in it?!!

Well this is as good a place as any to hide my little story in.

Firstly, think all those racing costs, then trying to save for a house... obviously on a rather limited 19yo income the figures dont add up - but i found a way to deal with that. Run second hand tyres, for at least 6 race meetings, make dad dinner every night of the week between race meetings and he puts 1 full tank of gas in the van to get me to a meeting. Oil changes, yeah cant skimp on those, every 3 meetings regardless.

Anyway! you get the gst So i chose, instead of half-arsedly racing to save for a house, to call it quits, and do the house thing then come back to racing in say a season or twos time(hard hard hard hard HARD decision i swear).

However with more recent events etc it might be looking like i will be back out on the track and even better all going well Shade will be out on the track hopefully on my old bike!.

Asperations? Well i dont want to be the best rider in NZ. And i dont plan on winning F1, F2, or even racing in them at this stage!, just as much as i sure as heck dont plan on winning F3. However after much thought and straightening of some of my many twisted views. I am keen on giving F3 a proper shot, Try as best i can, both in terms of a rider on the bike on the day(not that i already hadnt been!) but as a manager of a race team-despite that team only having me as a rider, im talking making proper decisions on what it takes to give F3 a good go, all the little things, and then the bigger ones. Professionalism(sp?)

Anyways theres my story! And as for this thread, I dont expect people to help me, this isnt a cry for more help, i guess in closing this is a thanks, to all those that have already helped me, its taken everything ive experienced 'till today, most of it involving KB'ers around the track and their help/advice to come to the decisions i have made, and that is already more then enough.

SO ANYWAY... who should help go to? TOP OF THE LIST.... most definatley has to be MotoRacer.

He has true motovation, he has his lifes priorities set on racing, he is focused, and he does give it his best in every aspect.
with all that, my personal opinion is he is the KB'er i think may well have, what it takes to have a serious go at being in the lead.

Whoa! i need to eat, sorry if my post doesnt make much sense!
