A motorcycle race series called "World Moto Clash" has been whispered about in the paddock for several months now and an invite-only "investor preview" event for the series was held last Thursday night in San Jose at Club Auto Sport.

What is the concept behind World Moto Clash? While most details of the clandestine project remain secret, persons who attended the WMC Investor Preview say that it is a global race series tentatively launching on September 26 at Barber Motorsports Park. The series will have a three million dollar purse and pay the champion a cool one million dollars. Motorcycles eligible to race in the prospective series are basically anything from a streetbike to a Superbike to a MotoGP bike or a limited production machine like the MotoCzysz. There are no limitations on horsepower, weight, size or speed.

The series will have 1000 entries but only 40 riders eligible for the final round.

The proposed television package for the World Moto Clash series will be groundbreaking if it reaches fruition: creators of the series told a crowd of over 100 last week in San Jose that the series will be televised on "network TV" and that the reality series based on the championship, "Road to the Clash" will be produced and directed by Hollywood director Tony Scott (Top Gun, Days of Thunder).

Ex-racer Rich Oliver helped emcee the World Moto Clash preview night, and racers Miguel DuHamel and Eric Bostrom were on hand and spoke to the crowd.

As part of the evening's festivities, the 150 potential investors--among them many Hollywood types--were shown a promotional video piece on the series featuring MotoGP bikes. In the opinion of sources in the crowd, the video was exciting and pulse-quickening.

US motorcycle racing could certainly use a shot in the arm in 2009 and a race series with a multi-million dollar purse and a possible network television series attached to it could, obviously, be huge.

The September 26 date appears to be open on Barber's on-line calendar and it seems World Moto Clash may be close to attaining the financial backing required to launch the series.
