    Question FZR questions

FZR 400: I have a 1989 4hundie and I want to adjust the cam chain, on this forum there is a link to the 1991-on 4hundies manual, does anyone know if the proceedure is the same?

FZR 1000: I currently have my 1000 off the road as it started running like crap, and after talking to a few people we detirmined it was most likely a carby/fuel problem (rough running and no power at idle), I found one carb body has the pilot air screw firmly stuck and it looks like someone has been in there with a chainsaw trying to move it. I have applied heat to the housing and soaked the carb body in CRC for weeks trying to free up this needle, I cannot budge it. are there any carby specialists out there who could tackle this or shoul I try and track down a 2nd hand set of carbs. The 1000 is a 1987 so it is pre-exup, are the carbs different between the non-exup and the exup models?

Thanks in advance for any help.

hey, dumb off topic question, but what's the exup thingey? I know mine has the sticker but since my technical knowledge is limited to oil changes...

It's a valve in the zorst system that opens as the throttle's twisted, so at low revs you get the exhaust port back-pressure, and at high revs it's fully open to allow a freer flow of gases.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Hiya DrDee. I've got an 89 FZR1000 EXUP
Pretty sure the carbs are different. If you go here http://www.yamahaaccy.com/parts.aspx the site has all the (US) parts for all model years, so you can take a look.
Otherwise pop along to http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhood and ask. Someone is bound to know.
And for an explanation of exactly what the EXUP valve is s'posed to do, go here http://ymedc.introweb.nl/en/archive/.../FZR1000.shtml

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

dr DEE--- as I recall -possibly incorrectly it has a semi automatic tensioner-as in you loosen of the locking bolt and ping the chains tensioned.
as for carb jets -a possible solution might be to remove a jet from another carb -measure diameter and then drill the offending jet out and use a tiny easy out to remove the remains
