On Good Friday and Easter Day most retail shops must be closed, by law. And almost all other non essential businesses close also.

Nothing to do with an inquistion, the rules affect all religions equally. Much to do with respect and allowing retail workers to have special days with their families .

Thre are 361 other days in the year to shop and get drunk. People can manage without both for four days.

The OP phrasing led me to think that it was alcohol what was forbidden these days, hence my comment on inquisition. I understand your law for selling alcohol is similar to UK, you need license and all that.
