I like to think that if something similar to this attack happened in my neck of the woods, someone would intervene.
I wouldn't necessarily agree with that as I've experienced two incidents in little old Levin where people who were in the wrong have behaved threateningly towards me or my husband. In the first one, a woman who was beside me in a left-turning lane tried to cut in front of me to go straight through at a roundabout but didn't manage it. While I was waiting for a car to exit the roundabout, she then jumped out of her car and ran towards the driver's door of mine. Thankfully I was able to drive off, leaving her ranting and raving in the middle of the road with other drivers tooting at her. In the second incident, we were driving past Levin's adventure park when a guy in a white van pulled straight out in front of us. We tooted and he waved his fist at us and gave us the finger. I gave him the finger back so he swerved to the side of the road again, jumped out of his van and started running towards us. Again, we were lucky that there was a break in the traffic and we were able to move off, but what the fuck is going on when two people, both of whom were totally in the wrong, appear to want to thump US when we had done nothing wrong?
If I do something stupid (and we all do, at times) like pull out and not see another car as it may have been in my blind spot, I wave and mouth "sorry" - I don't shake my fist at them and make like it's their fault.
I notice the guy in Auckland who was responsible for that elderly man's death (even if they do discover he hit his head as he fell, he wouldn't have fallen if he hadn't been punched or pushed) was from the islands. Here's hoping they deport the bastard if that's the case. I don't want to point any fingers here but in both incidents I was involved with, the other driver was of the tanned persuasion.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
