Long time no post? Basic Handling Test advice wanted.

Hi all, long time no post! Lets be honest, I'm embarrased I'm still on a 50cc bike, I never intended to stay on it for long but time has drifted by and I've owned it for a year now ..

So time to step on up and get my learners license. I've booked my basic handling test for Monday at 9am so was wondering if anyone had a basic layout idea or help for me so I can get this down to a perfected t. I know it's 'hard' to fail this test (a work colleague whos never even ridden has recently passed it!) but I'm still nervous.

I've just been told I can't sit the test on my bike (RD50) because it's not registered as a motorcycle

so I'm a bit gutted about that, they have a 110cc automatic bike I can use but lets face it, I'm used to gears and I'm used to 50cc.

So once I've passed this and my scratch'n'sniff then I can get a 250cc bike and actually come on these rides all you wonderful ladies (in CHCH!) are having.

It is easy Joilet and dont worry about it, at least you have ridden a bike before the test unlike me, and I passed with no problems. From what I remember you ride around in circles, inbetween some cones and break. I am sure there is threads about this so just do a search. Its a piece of piss really, you have nothing to be concerned about.

You will have a practice option first hun, so you can get used to the bike.
I take it you are going to Mainland?
The instructors are fabulous and make you feel at ease! They are real nice and friendly and have heaps of advice. You have nothing to worry about, nothing at all.

You will have to ride between a meter wide line that has to take you more than 12 seconds to complete, weave between cones that are a metre apart, approching and manouvering around a tight corner using your indicators etc. Remember you look to where you are going. You will also have to stop in a specially marked square, complete full stop before moving your feet to place on the ground.
The guys at Mainland will talk you through it all babe.
You WILL pass with flying colours, I have every faith in you!

cmon now... man up a bit. nobody fails those tests. you will be perfect. id owned a harley at the time and couldnt get a gn250 round those cones. He made me try like five times, saw how agitated i was, and ticked me off.
but hey those cones were close........ and the go nowhere had no highway pegs

you will fly thru and wonder why you worried. Promise ya

A metre wide with a twist and go will be sweet as.
I did mine on a 125cc scoot as well after only being on a 50cc, my eyes watered getting there as they weren't used to going faster than 60km/ph!

Guys up here were friendly so no doubt they will be there too.
You'll get the hang of the bike in minutes, they are sooooo easy to ride.
Next, get yourself there a bit earlier so you get plenty of practice time to wiggle around the cones etc.
Then you just do it all again and they tick you off as you go and if you muck up, they just get you to do it again !

Basically, you have to be completely incompetant to not be able to pass - but if you've been blatting around for a year, you'll be FINE !!!

Good luck, you will be fantastic. I did mine at Mainland and they were great, really clear and I didn't have anywhere near a year of zooming around under my belt!
You get a practice run, and the test itself is pretty easy. That said, I am too stressed to book my restricted!!!!
Maybe next month???

what you do on the scooter and the practice you have on that should get you through no problem...

my wife... a middle aged old chook

got it without really any practice

Seriously you'll find it simple. All the things you do are second nature once you've ridden anything two wheels before!!! don't be scared go in positve and ace that easy test that steals the money outta your back pocket lol.
