    Rural Internet options?

Right on the edge of civilisation, Telecom reports the local exchange is full of connections and ADSL or other high speed interweb connection is wanted.

    • Telstra lease the line off Telecom so same issue - no available connections
    • Orcon can't provide coverage in the area
    • Woosh doesn't provide coverage
    • Slingshot due to reply soon...

    What's the best strategy?
    • Tell one of them to pre-order a connection so when a connection comes up it's sold?
    • Get a satellite dish?
    • Take the medicine and accept dial up is the way of the rural future...?

Connection is right at the edge of Auckland, Alfriston Road I think - by Dannemora.

PM me the phone number and I'll do check. I have had one recently who had been trying since Sept. last year and I got her Broadband in three days. Could have been a coincidence so no promises, but we can check the current availability for you.

PM which number. I'll have a look how far from a cell site you are. You should be able to get a vodem to work well there. There's two Vodafone 3G sites nearby.
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

My folks are with Packing Shed on wireless. Seems pretty good - they couldn't get ADSL and even dial up was useless due to the poor phone lines.

As far as wireless goes, they aren't bad. I transferred a customer from them who had a few issues, but wireless can't compete with fixed if fixed can be supplied. I'd certainly choose Packing Shed over most wireless providers.
