    The joys of religion...

Each Friday night after work, Rangi would fire up his barbeque and cook a venison steak. But, all of Rangi's neighbors were Catholic, and since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday. The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest.

The Priest came to visit Rangi, and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Rangi attended Mass...and as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, "Rangi, you were born a Baptist, and raised a Baptist, but now you are a Catholic."

Rangi's neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived, and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood. The Priest was called immediately by the neighbors, and, as he rushed into Rangi's yard, clutching a rosary and prepared to scold him, he stopped and
    watched in amazement.

There stood Rangi, clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted: "Bro, you wuz born a deer, you wuz raised a deer, but now you is a paua."

If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

But with MUCH more taste. Mmmm...mmmmm. And for our 'foreign' friends, it's pronounced 'paawaa'.
I hope that Rangi carefully measured his venison to ensure it wasn't undersized...the Kaitiaki couldn't care less, but Maf get antsy.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Actually you kiwis pronounce paua the same way you pronounce power.

Bear and beer sound the same too. Nothing wrong with that just an observation.

Once again, for our foreign friends (and those that have difficulty with accents) paua is pronounced paa-waa.
And just for McJim - you turn on the pow-a to cook your paa-waa while you drink your bee-a (one hopes it is too-ee, but at a pinch spates will do). An if youse can bear (pronounced bare) with me a littil longa, fush un chups taste betta outa the pay-pa.
Our accent is just one of the unique things about this place we call home.

You're right. Southlanders pronounce the letter R so power sounds like power. I was only talking about those poor sods that live north of Kingston.

Paua is a Maori word. I'm not sure how they pronounce it, but 'white' kiwis say paawaa - no accent on either syllable.
