friend of mine had his VTR1000 done by GP trading on there dyno, K&N air filter, Scorpion cans, restrictors taken out, i think the 195 dynojets and tuned to suit. went from stock 97 hp at wheel to 107 hp. and yeah its pretty quick.
I'm off to the pub, I may be sometime.
What was the torque curve like?.Originally Posted by scroter
You mentioned restrictors, are talking about inlets?.
Freind of mine has 98 storm, its a lot slower than mine, so just trying to sort it out.
Restrictors????? theres lots of talk about these.... but what are they??? Those that I know that have removed the excess header pipe out of the colecter have said they notice no differance.... and as for intake restriction.... well some say no such thing others say ther is a washer like thing valcanised into the manafold???Originally Posted by scroter
Now what differance is the 195 dyno kit too the std?
Hers another VTR site that I was just put on to its a bit closser to home I havent been there yet but will soon.

Seen pic's of this restriction, checked my freinds bike for this.Originally Posted by dangerous

I think it's headers, his bike with my yoshis on has a totally different note.
they took restrictors out of intake and exhaust but dont know much about them or whether they made a difference as the whole lot was done at once apart from the cans which came with the bike. i cant remember what the torque curve was like. at a track day at taupo last year there were about 10 VTRs and this thing was blowing them away down the straight and of corse the inevetable was everyone asking about it. the bikes touring round the south island at the moment, when he comes back i will ask him about it and update you, but in short for a VTR its damn fast especially considering the corbin seat feels like about 10 kgs.Originally Posted by dangerous

Dunno bout no restrictors - there were none on my 'Storm. There is a partial restriction where the headers meet, but all the tests I've read where this was removed said it made no difference at all, at all. I left it alone on mine.
Mine supposedly had been Dynojetted, but I reckon it had only Dynojet stickers. When I checked the needles, they looked like the stock ones with the dual taper (Dynojet needles have a simple taper).
Whatever - with a Unifilter in the airbox, shimmed main needles, and down a tooth on the front sprocket, it went very well indeed, and would loft the front wheel off the throttle in first and second, and sometimes third, but usually when I wasn't trying...
Of all the mods done to my bike (braided lines, APE manual camchain tensioners, modified zorst, Unifilter, etc.), I reckon the lowered gearing was the best value for money performance enhancement.![]()
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
Yeah so they reckon...... but how much does it affect the speedo reading? because it would be just my luck I'd get done for going faster than I thought I was goingOriginally Posted by vifferman

My original question as to what the F + R main jets people were running, was to see if I was chasing a problem in the wrong place - My VTR has had a weird "miss" at 5000 rpm ...as if it was a jetting problem ..but I found it - the front coil is faulty - and in all the years of cars and bikes, I have never ever had a coil that had a failure , but only at a certain rev range ...we live and learn.
Oh , and those of you that are asking about restrictors - yes there are intake restrictors in some VTR's - they are alloy "washers" that are in the intake rubbers ...if you pull the carbs they are easy to see - if they exist...they are easy to remove though, once you remove the carb rubbers.
I didnt measure the ones I removed, but they restict the intakes by a good 10mm or so.![]()
Are these restrictors on any perticular model???Originally Posted by grantm

As you will see Im VRT less now after having one for 3 years. I have traded it on a DR650. I never changed the gearing on mine but must admit they are geared to high after riding my CBR1000RR. One tooth less on front sprocket would give a bit more punch when passing ect. Check out www.micapeak.com there was over 1500 VTRs registered on it. Interesting reading. Cheers Toddy
I assume they are only on the Jap home market models, but who knows...if some markets required HP restrictions, they could be on bikes sent to other countries.Originally Posted by dangerous
I have read that there is a also a restrictor plate welded in some of the stock pipes, just where the two pipes meet, but my bike does not seem to have one.
Hi guys yes it's my storm at taupo scroters talking about. Jeting if you've got a K & N filter, Pipes, restrictors out of carb intake. The jets you use ARE 190 front & 195 rear you also have to richin the pilot needle a bit.I got 107hp. I then cut the partial restriction out where the headers meet & With a bit of tinkering about I got 109.8hp at the rear weel. All on a stock bike.Buy the way,The carb intake restrictors are only on late model vtrs.![]()
Wouldn't happen to be a yellow one? I rode down from the ferry with 3 guys from Te Puke, one of whom had a yellow VTR. Sounded good.Originally Posted by scroter
