It might be an indicator for when you hit 100ks perhaps..

like those silly beeping noises some cars make when they hit 100ks..
    GET ON
    SIT DOWN
    SHUT UP
    HANG ON

The 'speed light' you mention is a thing they fit for the Jap market. Set to come on at 100ks. your lucky it says speed, i once had a customer who got his bike bought to me by the AA saying, the oil light keeps coming on when i open it up!! Can be disconnected if it really annoys you.

I think you will find it comes on at 90kph. Spadas light up at that speed.
Cover with a bit of duct tape. Disconnect. Remove bulb. Or just get used to it...sort of built-in radar detector
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

The japs wernt dumb and back in the day when they made in line 4 250s they equiped them with a device to let you know your going to fast.

This device takes inputs from the pegs and bars, and a moisture sensor on the seat to determine when your going to fast for your ability.
