If you're going to fit a swtich to bypass something, why go to the lengths of putting it near what you're bypassing? Just more messing..
Just find an ignition positive, and any negative run a new wire from the ignition + (CHECK the wire you're running from), and put the switch where it's easiest for you to reach to. Mine was on the left panel, just above the fuse box. I got a toggle switch and 'weather' (rubber) cover from Repco, drilled a small hole, wired it, taped it, went for it.. never a dull/hot day after that..

Don't go tapping into any wire tho.. And it's onl good if you know that you're having thermostat issues, else let the bike worry about switching it on and off..

which bit are you on about then? the mechanical one, or the thermo electrical switch one?

The 2 bolt like items in the radiator with wires coming off are 1: the thermistor which is connected to the temp gauge & 2: a thermal switch which turns the fan on. . .

Sure, pull the crotch lever in, click the brake lever into auto, swing down the sidecover & dismount the automobile.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, just install a switch to turn the fan on in traffic, I'm yet to meet a CBR250R/RR that didn't climb the temp scale when in jams...

Although having said that, In the first 3 years of us owning our MC19, the cooling fan never worked, it was because the battery in the bike was too small(Good one bikeshop), installed a new one to factory spec and it started working!

my last gixxer i did 12k on it and the fan never kicked in once. at normal operating temp your thermostat should open then when it starts to get hot the fan should kick in.
I'm off to the pub, I may be sometime.

Mine does it too, its all Stevo's fault

Hey there, I have an 88 FZR250 that has this exact same problem, the Thermoswitch was packed. I first discovered this because the previous owner had attempted to 'repair it' somehow and ended up blowing the fuse then connecting a couple of wires directly from the battery to the fan (duh) that had to be connected everytime you wanted a ride. Goodo.

Anyway after replacing the fuse and re-doing the wiring (had to re-ground the negative connection from the fan and fix up the short circuit the twit had wired in..duh) I have the fan working correctly if the switch is bridged BUT I'm DAMNED if I can source a working thermoswitch!!

I've been to Atomic wreckers on the shore, the guy there's great but it seems his entire stock of the buggers are stuffed and I can't get any of them to bridge at 100 deg, he even gave me a couple to take away including one that was still in the thermostat assy and still no joy. In the meantime though I've connected a normal switch up on the handlebars in parrellel to the thermoswitch currently installed as an 'override'.

Anyone have any ideas where I can get a WORKING thermoswitc for an FZR250 -- does it HAVE to be a Yamaha one or is there a standard design/thread for these things for cars/bikes/whatever, like light bulbs? Someone else suggested I try car wreckers... but um... that sounds like a waste of time.

    Steve
