    Gangs

What are the local authorities going to define as a "gang" ?
If I wear a "Manawatu Riders" patch will they think I'm a part of a "gang" ?
If I wear a "Wellington HOG" patch does that mean I'm now in a "gang" if I ride through Wangavegas ? Where do they draw the line ? I guess the devil will be in the detail with this legislation.

    You know them do ya?

I can point to some very, very cool motorcycle stuff that they've produced. It takes some tenacity to do that shit and as for camo; well, it only goes so far. Both ways.

You can rofl on kb, as I can. A bit of a riot can happen anywhere, complete with contractions.

The decision will be made in that regard, by the "enforcing authority" ... ie. Police. Unless they are as dumb, as some on site may suggest ... I doubt if you will have any worries.

I reckon that the biggest problem is, as you suggest, in the definition of 'gang'.

    HOG

    Ulysses

    Police......

    Which is the gang?

I wrote to my MP on this fine point and guess what? Nothing, that'ts what.

I got no definition at all, so it's all open-ended and limp.

There's nothing to suggest that anything will change anytime soon.

    Theres no going back now.

I suspect the bylaw will detail a list of banned Gang Patches.

After they have trained all the Meter Maids/ Parking Wardens etc and placed all the relevant signage then they may start to enforce this law.

I also think this will cause a landslide of applications from other councils once one or two succesfull prosecutions have taken place.

Interestingly this law does not cover Gang Colours or Tattoos.

Probally wont accomplish much by itself cos most gang members dont wear there patches in public now. Guess they prefer to keep a low profile.

But I'm pretty sure this is just the begining for the Gangs.

People in NZ seem to have had enough of Gangs and politicians will be studying Whats happening in Oz.

Watch this space .... could get interesting.

Back in the day it came under ''Unlawful Assembly'' - the legislation brought in to control gangs. As far as motorcycles were concerned - it was considered an Unlawful Assembly if more than 4 motorcycles were riding together at one time (I think, may have been more than 3).The only motorcyclists who rode in groups of more than 4 were usually considered motorcycle gang members. You would be stopped, for sure.We rode in staggered groups.

I don't know if that law was repealed - easy to apply an existing law.So how many are on your group rides? Are you a gang?

    Erm!

The term 1%er came about through the non-conformist faction of the AMA, meaning that 99% conformed to the AMA's rules and 1% did not. It's grown from there.

Some motorcycle clubs formed that were 'non-conformist' and therefore 1%ers. A barrier (if you like) has formed that seperates 1%ers from mainstream (if you like) bikers. However, in a democratic society all should be allowed to exist in peace, to "do their own thing in their own time".

Sorry if that sounds too simplistic.
