Red face Advice wanted from Nats racers please....

Ok I'm really wanting to have a crack at these Nats, if only just once.
I'm liking the look of the proposed new Privateers Cup SBK class as it seems to be a great entry level for an expensive class.
Am not racing through winter to try and get enough dosh to upgrade to the new 1000rr as my susp and hopefully wheels will transfer straight over.

What I'd like to hear from you guys that have done it are a few/many of the costs involved.

Being a norf islander the travel and 3 1/2 weeks of being down south will cost how much? Practise days, race fee's etc.

At this stage I'd prob be going it alone so is that possible?

Do people group together to save on accomodation etc?

Tyres would be a big cost I know, am assuming I can get away with 1 rear per race day, and hopefully it'll be good enough for a test/track learning day as well.

Are people willing to share pit sheds during the Nats, or are they more team only focused during the series?

Am I wrong thinking to even do it on the cheap I'd be looking at around 20k for the whole Nationals? I'm prepared to dig a fairly large hole just to say I've had a go. Otherwise I'd always wonder if I could've done any good.

Hopefully I'll get somewhere with this elusive sponsorship thing along the way there

Can I ask for serious replies please.....................oh wait nearly forgot where I was.............KB

Good luck with it mate, I reckon it would be a great adventure if you can swing it.

I'm hoping to do a round or two in Clubman's down South next year, just to experience the tracks, but no doubt work will put the kibosh on doing the whole lot.

It is great to see another rider looking at doing the Nationals,

But before you commit to anything, check there is a Nationals to attend.

With Paul Stewart and the rest of the NZSBK team pulling out, there will probably be no Series as such. Without Paul, the Sponsors will go. So although the Clubs will probably run the meetings, there will be NO TV etc.

It is looking like Road Racing is about to go backwards by five or ten years.

Ask someone who was there back then, like Trevor Heaphy or Paul Pavletich.

Why you are at it, you might like to asked them WHY this has Happened

That sounds like a fuggin' good plan actually, if we're quick they won't even have a chance to cool down.

Yip,I heard the same thing,However thats not necessarily a bad thing for anyone who wants to do the series for the first time as it could cut costs if the clubs only run their meetings as glorified club days maybe the trackhire would be cheaper leading to lower entry fees and if you could get a couple of days racing at each track on the cheap before returning the following year for a serious crack at a title then youd be so much better prepared

36 Pffft, 46 Pffft. I'm 54 and did all the National rounds this year for the first time, so whats your hurry Sure I was only on a Pro-Twin but WTF

IF you really want to do it then DO IT. It was brilliant and a massive learning experience.

I'll be living in ChCh by the time the Nationals come around next year so I may possibly be able to help with accommodation etc... No promises but I'm happy to help any keen racer where I can.

I'll be at VMCC Round 1 in Taupo if you want to have a chat. Look for #71.

Even though its 3 weekends of racing you usually can get away with 2 weeks and 5 or 4 days down here. Save on accomodation and time off work. If you are doing it yourself you are probably up against it. Not sure how much it will cost you but I budget $7-8k to do the whole nationals on my 125, but I have no idea how much extra it would cost to do it on a thou.

There are only pit sheds at Ruapuna, yeah people share them, they aren't very expensive, iirc $50 a day. So $75 for two people for a weekend, wouldn't want to fit much more than 2 bikes in one. The other tracks you're outside, they have a good setup though so long as you have an ezup or something such.
