RG150 won't make power at high revs

    Hello,
I have been furiously prepping my RG150 for the VMCC series, and thought I had it all sorted. At a trackday a couple of weeks ago it was not revving much past 10k and wasnt making any power, I quick check discovered the powervalves werent opening. A bit of creative cable adjustment forced them permanently open, which then made the bike run sweet as in the powerband.

This weekend I took the powervalves out (the actuator was faulty and I had no worries riding without them), and after just taking it for a ride today it is now once again not making any power in the powerband!!

I know I am not the only one running without powervalves, so can anyone tell me if there is something I need to do? I have just removed all of the gear, nothing else (I was told this would be sweet as).

So far I have also checked the plug & airfilter. Both are fine.

When the fuel is left on, I have noticed some leaking from the carb overflow hose, however I figured this was not a major (as it drains to a bottle and doesnt happen while running as far as I can tell) and could be fixed at a later date. Could this be related?

Any help would be pretty hugely appreciated - I only have 2 weeks to get it sorted!!

    Hey mate,

It's kyle, the guy who gave you a hand at the cdmtc track day.

I believe you need powervalve blanks (just something what goes into the slot as the same shape as the powervalve when fully open).
if you want to take them out.
As there is now a big empty space. What is a big thing for a 2 stroker.
    I don't think i have a spare actuator.
But you could try pete. The best thing too do is put them in properly.

I might be wrong, your best bet is too give pete jones a ring.

How high is it revving now?

So is removing the power valves a legal modification in Vic club streetstocks is it?

Ahh I had a feeling that might be the case. Cheers for the help.

racey: I dont see why it wouldnt be as it doesnt increase power, its just one less thing to worry about breaking.

I'm not modifying it, just removing stuff. Bottom line, I'm not making any more power and i'm making it a little more challenging to ride. I may even learn much better riding habits this way rather than relying on the powervalves to save me if I mess up and end up out of the powerband. Looks like they'll be going back in though - I'll just adjust the cables so they are constantly open, that way there will be no protests about its legality.

No it is not an illegal mod.
In fact it is making the bike worse to ride. (Assuming you put blanks in).
Because you loose all your bottom end.
Its basically like locking the power valves open. (Assuming you put blanks in).
It won't run very well at all without blanks. As there is essentially a new hole in the barrel.

Like you say, put em back in. tbh that bike had some perk too it the whole 50m i rode it for =).
And there was less of a risk in them falling down the barrel.

I'll have another search for my spare actuator.

AJ its not unusual for people to put "blanks" in the RG150's.

    You should know this matey.

AJ, i will be bringing a spare RG150 for the first couple rounds. Will remind you when we get there.

Yeah it ran sweet as with cables adjusted, I just didn't consider that the powervalves still needed to be there even if not in use!

No worries, just in case someone's go's bang.

Crap tyres but we can just swap rims. Hopefully it won't be needed. My bro's bikes coming up so i might as well bring a spare forever one. Its in decent condition now after its cliff exclursion.

    Okay AJ =).
