    My Tach GPS Unit

    Hey

I was at Manfield on Friday and a friend of mine had just got a new GPS unit called My Tach, it was about the size of a wrist watch and was easily secured round the top of the triple clamp.

All he had to do was go to the start finish area link up with one of the 6 satelites overhead at the time and confirm his GPS position.
The unit picked up lap times could tell him the average speed of the laps and later he told me that he could go home and down load the info for analysis and that it could even be over laid on Google maps?
The unit was worth $600 NZ dollars, on the other hand i was using a XT Ultra lap timer which although cost a little less was far from reliable on the day.

Anyone wanna by my XT? it is now for sale.

I bought a second hand palm device and a small gps antenna on trade me to get it running.

It is not perfect but ok.
I've got two google maps pics in my profile

    Thats pretty impressive

Yeah thats pretty cool, heres the link to the My tach website http://mytach.co.uk/

I think the beacon/infrared type timers will go the way of the Dodo fairly quickly.

    Cheers Johan

    Like the watch idea.

XT are onto it too. Like the idea of up to 5 splits per lap.

Hey dude, i think your problem with your XT. Is the fact your server is running off two AA's. I think?

Try my suggestion of running it on one spare 12v battery with the suppiled leads. Should get a way way better reliable result.

I just got an e mail from Kevin G so to clear up any misunderstandings im not bagging the XT's, but i shouldnt have to connect a 12v battery to boost the output signal so the sensor can pick it up.
The XT may be a great infrared system but this technology is going to become redundant as the GPS systems become more specialised and less expensive.
Thats not my fault its just inevitable isnt it? Kev?

Kev did say that XT do have a GPS system with split time 5 point aquisition data logging so its all good let us know when they are available.

    Cheers.
