the insurace compan ywill pursue that you may not have to pay excess yet

My insurance policy (Swann) says "give us the correct registration number of the other vehicle or information we need to positively identify the driver". My interpretation would be that the rego number is sufficient as it says "or". The insurance company then has the job of recovering it from the scumbag !!
Hopefully your policy is similar so you aren't out of pocket for the excess.

This is the offending vehicle from my off. Registered owner was not the driver.

Police advise me the suspected driver is known to them and following forensic examination of the vehicle and a search warrant for cell phone records they are continuing enquiries to locate him. Vehicle is un-registered and un-wof'd, and the driver is disqualified.

the peninsula in the distance (beyond point Jerningham) and a prominent building(blow the pic up) provide a fairly accurate line along which you can pick intersecting streets.
