i was looking in the same place as you BMWST
Damn, I would have had that if I lived there. I used to live in them there woods. End of Rifle Range Road looking Southish.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single motorcycle

As I was leaving this spot and just after turning back up Ohariu Valley Road from Rifle Range Road another motorcyclist came towards me on what looked very much like a BMW adventure type of machine. Had to be BMWST? I thought. So turned around and raced back up Rifle Range Road to go and say "Gidday" to a person I have met online but never person to person. Only to find there was no one at the end of the road. So if it was BMWST? then he still didn't know for sure at that time exactly where the tag was. So it was a quick trip home in the hope of beating him to it (if it was him).
So...
Was that you BMWST? ?
Ignore that, obviously it was you.
I too first thought the tag was on Takapu Road as it fitted the description as well, it changes name if you choose to walk it to the end, it is a historic road, has the same two power pylons running along it etc. Just not those street views hence my post earlier re my confusion.
yes it was...i knew it was rifle range road but when i got to the crossroads i went right cos i thought rifle range road would run back off O'valley Road
so i went all the way to the end.I saw you and although it was bloody dark I though that it was you...(i only saw twin headlights(not round)).Then i went back and up RR road.I though i might just beat you to post it,Only MINUTES in it eh....
And there is more to this story.
I was going to grab it straight after work before heading home. But I had to go home first to give the daughter some cash so she could go out tonight.
Quickly checked on the computer if anyone had grabbed the tag yet. Nope.. so my partner said what are you waiting for, go for it.
So back on the bike and over the hill. Turned off at Gracefield past Industrial Research there. Halfway along the curve coming down the hill the speed limit changes from 80km/hr down to 50km/hr. You are coming down a steep hill and don't want to ride the brakes so just coast it down under engine brakes. Have done this for the last 15 years. As you get back on the flat you slow down to 50 or there abouts.
This evening a cop was coming up the road to head over the hill and pinged me for doing 66km/hr in what was now 50km/hr.
Gutted. So $120 and 20 demerit points on my otherwise squeeky clean drivers licence.
An expensive tag this one.
And more..I posted earlier that we havent worked friday for months.I had it all figured out last night but hadnt looked at he map carefully enough. So i was all ready to rush off from work at 4 30 ,but the Boss was there and a customer had dropped of a dozen Heineken, which the boss asked me to put in the freezer at about 3 pm.I checked just before i left work and thought all was well.Any other Friday and it would have been gone at 10 am ish.
Nice One!
//edit: Oh man, what a race! Sorry about the ticket, Cloggy! It seems like the Street View threw many people off. I figured that technically, my bike was parked on Old Coach Road. The Street Views are part of the original road, albeit from the other side of the hill.
what are the chances of a new tag tonight?? no stress if not just its a nice night for a ride
