A great day - excellent weather 850-odd bikes, even more people, and the spectacle of seeing Victoria Street closed for the 20th Annual Ulysees Club Toy Run.
Many thanks to LiasTZ for giving me a lift on the back of his GN250.
We met up with Holy Roller (wearing his "Media Shirt") and his daughter at the Cambridge BP just after 10am, and headed down to see the bikes at 10:30 - some great machines there including an old Military BSA ("Despatch", I suspect) still in its original paint - miltiary drab green.
Caught up with Warr in the midst of the throng.
Great weather for a ride and people were out in force lining the road waving to us all. We even had cagers who were going the other way waving and flashing their lights at us.
Just at the Tamahere on-ramp was a huge clump of people waving and a big sign saying "THANK YOU".
Victoria Street and Garden Place were both packed with bikes and milling people but I still managed to catch up with several people I know in that crowd.
Strayjuliet, unable to get a ride on the run itself, brought the cubs down and they were really good about taking a toy each and giving it to the woman at the truck (was worried they'd want to keep the toys but, no, they handed them over.) I don't know if the badges I gave them made up for giving the toys away - not as cuddly, certainly.
Caught up with EddieB just as we were leaving. I got to push the cubs home in their pram so strayjuliet could catch a ride home on LiasTZ's bike. (It's only fair considering she missed out on the run)
Got to get one of my bikes running in time for next year's event. (21st "coming-of-age" party for the Toy Run????? I hope.)
A big thanks to the Ulysees Club for organising another great event and the police for their assistance, and all those who devoted their time and their resources to make it all possible.
Holy Roller and Warr, nice meeting you both, EddieB, great seeing you again.
