Dear oh dear, does it get any worse?

Wtf.....http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=10571959 if i have to hear this bitch say "i had an abusive upbringing" one more time. Not sure whats worse her comments/her appointment to such a position or the fact that our media finds her appointment news worthy.Whilst the anti smacking law disgusts me the fact that this old slappers riding its wave seems just as.4 husbands and how many children?Call me cynical but.

I don't understand why they are giving her another shot at a public entity - didn't she make a complete hash of WINZ (expensive retreats and the like)?

Unless they want her to fail and make a mess of the Families Commission - which I also don't understand as all that will do is annoy Peter Dunne (an admiral goal, certainly, but politically unwise I would have thought)

Either way, she's faaaaaaaaaaaar to old to be dressing the way she does. I can appreciate that she's proud of her body (good for her in this day and age), but time and gravity are bad beauticians.

I don't see how the number of times Christine Rankin's been married is relevant to this story or indeed how it is even newsworthy.

Ms Rankin is one of a number of children's commissioners. She advocates a line that's a bit different to the usual PC stuff espoused by the "establishment". Indeed I seem to recall her line on smacking being loudly advocated by many "commentators" on this site during discussion of the anti-smacking Bill last year.

I smell a strong whiff of ageist sexism here. Just because she likes to dress as she does and give many societal strictures the fingers, doesn't make Ms Rankin unfit to serve. So she's not a MILF for many of the testosterone-driven oiks that post on this site. Fucking get over yourselves.

Actually, I've only just noticed this. I thought, by the way the news was blowing it up, that she was the only one.

If there are seven of them, that's another story. Her life experience will probably be useful in this role in that case.

I should add that I'm not a fan of Christine Rankin nor of her appointment to this role. Politically I think it's a brave, nay dangerous, move for this government which is enjoying an unprecedented honeymoon period of public support.

While we all have egos, successful public figures learn how to manage theirs and to use a language of inclusion. I think that Ms Rankin has some work to do there.

However she does bring an alternative and sometimes contrary view to discussions. Diversity of opinion is becoming a scarce commodity, and we should encourage it. Perhaps that is what this government is seeking to inject into the Families Commission.

Can't say I'd expect another similar role if I had blown 235 grand on a weekend retreat.

In fact I would be tarred for life. As she is, So in the first instance she has no right to complain about her treatment, and in the 2nd instance she has proven without doubt she shouldn't have the role.

this from someone who has this >>

Children: they’re cute at first, sure, but they’re also loud, destructive, not very bright and frankly horrible conversationalists. I don’t adopt retarded, violent midgets and invite them into my home for decades at a time, and I fail to see the difference in principle.

    as their signature?

    Diversity of Opinion?
Well maybe but appointing someone who has spent a few years attacking both the commission and the groups like Barnardos that the commission has to work with is not diversity its picking a self destructive fight.
And to make it dumberer and dumberer Key has managed to offend pretyty much every other political party including his coalition partners... Dumb and arrogant every way you cut it.

As far as the personal attacks of Ms Rankin go, well that would be a case of what goes around comes around as she has been quite the fan of personal attacks herself.
For a political appointment she has utterly appalling skills as far as leadership and public image is concerned..... Families first, except the ones she breaks up.
Turning up to the National party's election night party on the arm of a guy she had been having an affair with causing the wife of that guy to commit suicide 3 DAYS BEFORE!!! is just ugly, crass and downright revolting behaviour. Farkin hell had they even had the funeral and buried her by then?

Perhaps Ms Rankin is just the right person for this position.

She has said in her own words 'do we need the Families Commission?' (stated on Close up show).

Does the Families Commission actually acheive a primary goal? if it does what the hell is that objective? for the cost of the department, is it effective?

There are a lot of Government departments that have been established under the previous Labour government that can go...perhaps this is one of them. This department could be incorporated into WINZ very easily and if that is the case Ms Rankin will be the one to say if this department stays or goes. ]

Controversial appointment but perhaps of some benefit.

It's not a department its an "Independent commission" which works with WINZ and NGO's to provide a sort of watchdog facility between them.
