Standard cams for all bikes: NZSBK

Just got clarification that all bikes must run OEM cams for the 2010 nationals.

The say the rule is to reduce costs but, this will reduce costs for people setting up new bikes but cost riders more who already have there bikes set up and tuned to run on race cams.

I doubt my bike would ever run properly on standard cams.

The idea of standard cams on 09 homologated bikes is a good idea but having to modify existing bikes is BS!

Where is the finacial benefit behind that.... Its just cause the manufacturers dont want there new bikes being beating by there old ones!

There were 2 privateers that raced the nats last year, we both have bikes with cams we will have to spend money on, how can this be a cost cutting exercise??

Sorry Choppa . And by sorry I mean I feel genuinely sorry for you.
The proposed rule change was aimed squarely at bringing new blood back into the sport. Its not aimed at the "almost new" blood like yourselves.

Have you contacted ray C to discuss running std cams in your engine?

Its not that it wont run, it will just cost more time and money to drop the engine out, revert to std cams + springs and check clearances, then remap on dyno. All to reduce power, Id be keen too...

How are they planning to police it anyway?

There is actually not going to be much point for any 'privateers' entering superbike, so how many will be in that class - 5? and the rest in the stock 1000 class with treaded tyres maybe 7-8?

So how are the rule changes ratified ? I thought they were just proposals at this stage and that some sort of ratification was required.
I am assuming that it will be voted on at the AGM as rule changes appear in the General Business section of last years minutes.

I also note that in the existing rules (2007 version) that some changes state that previous year bikes come under previous year rules.

Perhaps we can get the amendment worded like that.

I can imagine you are really pissed off, just getting a top set up bike and then finding out you may not be able to race it.

I think we should lobby hard (but with unemotional and factual arguments) for an amendment that exempts any bike that actually raced under the existing rule.

I for one am really looking forward to seeing you in the 2010 nats on that bike after watching you at PMCC rnd 3 - you were flying

(edit) I just read the "how to change a rule" document. We can try to convince the commissioner and or commissioners and if that fails get it on the agenda for the AGM

im right behind ya there wharfy..

its a load of bullshit.. and this stinks even more!
like chop said.. it is supposed to be aimed at leveling the field... so this means everyone now has to buy new bikes in order to compete.. yes you could run your own current older bike.. but no way is it going to be competitive.. you would have to buy new.. problem is.. no one will

funny enough how the commisioner also works for honda.. whose riders came no where in the nats...

if they think the turnout was crap last year.. wait till the next season..!!

One thing about allowing hot cams is that it doesn't need to be policed.

If standard cams must be used it is one way to cheat, somthing that may or may not be a problem in classes that already prohibit cam changes.
We don't know if people are cheating or not if it is never checked.

Just thoughts, I'm not trying to imply anything and I'm not to worried either way as my choice of steed doesn't even have cams!

If you have the budget you have been wanking on about then get the stock cams put back in and get on with racing if ueez spent half as much time working on your bikes as you do crying on the net it would be done by now

Im not sure exactly what the story is with re tuning and cams etc but id imagine cause the pistons have been machined to suit valve clearences or whatever then it wont be ideal but another problem is my new bike is fast and i like it! haha

As far as hondas, they to will be affected by this ruling if they were running diff cams last year?

I think Ed was just winding up Craig!
