    Can you recommend a jacket?

Hey guys, can anyone recommend a Leather Jacket that is Black, light weight so I can wear it just walking around....No buckles and gimmicks just something nice and simple....

Does it have to have armour or is a standard leather jacket sill gonna protect you?

oh and also on a budget

    cheers

    Couple of thoughts.

Not sure what you have in mind as "standard leather" but lightweight and protection don't go together - the more you get of one, the less you get of the other. A dress leather jacket is not a motorcycle jacket. It will give some protection but not nearly enough.

Trademe is your friend. Find out what size jacket you take (if you don't know already) and keep an eye out on trademe. I got mine there... 9 years ago... for $200 and it's been bloody brilliant the whole time.
$2,000 cash if you find a buyer for my house, kumeuhouseforsale@straightshooters.co.nz for details

    Quasi gear is the best.
Fear is never a reason to quit. It's only an excuse.

Okay not the cheapest but I got a Revit "moto" jacket at wellie Motor cycles, they sell em at motomail in akl too. It's a black motorcycle jacket which has removable armour and removable winter liner, It's a classic simple design and doesn't scream "biker' ie doesnt have huge logos or lots of buckles and buttons or tassles. I wear mine as an everyday jacket (Mind you I ride everyday too) good luck on your search

Lots of the CNELL gear is quite good, and it's cheap. It's not leather though.

edit: and its casual enough for day wear.

Im suprised more shops dont stock like Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki etc Race looking Leather Jackets... They look pretty sporty and cool, or is it 'uncool' to ride a Kawasaki and have a 'Kawasaki' leather jacket on?

The short answer is Yes, you can find a jacket which will do what you want. Just a matter of price. However as MDU says a motorcycle jacket is not designed to be light. It needs to be made of 1.4mm leather or close and be double or triple stitched. Armour is good but is often removable for the sort of use you want.

There are clever modern leather designs which incorporate some elastic and cordura to give lightness and flexibility.

Have a look around at sellers on the web and you will become familiar with quality and brands.

Quasi is well regarded by members who buy his leathers. Leda is also very well regarded. 1tonne has budget deals and happy buyers here. Trade Me is your friend if you can be patient - just watched a nice pair of Leda trousers sell for $100 a few days ago but they looked a bit Harleyish for me.....

There are threads - do a search. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that helps.... I have a cordura Jacket but feel like a bit of an Eskimo (no offence to Eskimos!) walking round town in it....

    I wouldn't go there.
    They're useless to deal with.

If you want good service, a good product, and good value for money, get some Quasi gear.
If you just want cheap, then go to TardMe, and take your chances.
If you want really cheap, then just buy according to the price tag, but I guarantee you'll regret it.
    "No one regrets buying quality".
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Why do you say that? Share your experience - that's what forums are for.

We have bought gear from CNELL and we have had no problems. We had to return one jacket (wrong size) and everything went smoothly. Their gear is warm and strong, and great to wear around as casual-wear. It's also easy to modify the jackets to take electric heating. Contrast the Dri Rider gear - its easy to pull the internal waterproof liner and rip it, and the buckles, seams, and zips are easy to bust.
