A torso problem!

Hey guys,

I recently got myself a leather jacket and was tossing up in the shop between the medium and small size. In the end the sales person recommended i go with the medium as it covered the total length of my spine, even though it seemed a lil baggy. Wen i got on my bike, it felt quiet drafty and i started woundering that if i happen to have crashed, whether the jacket would ride up? perhaps the armour might shift during impact and wouldn't b where i needed it to be? the small was fairly tight, and didn't cover the length of my spine, but definatly felt more secure. My riding pants go up quiet high around my back, so it covers the lower spine where the small jacket wouldn't cover, and the leather pants i'm looking at getting will hopefully do the same. 2 days latter and i'm still considering which jacket is better in my head

Nebody got a recommendation or perhaps a new perspective?

Get Kerry (see last post) to put a full length zip on your pants and jacket and you will feel a lot more secure. I can vouch for the fact that if things turn to custard (as in falling off) nothing will go anywhere.

If your torso shape is umm different(?) you could approach Quasimoto or Celtic Leathers or whoever and get a jacket made to measure.

Unless you are the stock standard body that manufacturers use as a pattern* to make their gear you are going to have to compromise in some areas as to fit.

Women are hugely different shapes and sizes, and more importantly hugely different shaped in the same size. What you buy off the shelf is unlikely to fit you well unless you are*.

Safety should be your paramount concern, all us biker chicks look hawt, hawt, hawt in our gear afterall. As has been suggested go and see Kerry and get your jacket altered to fit a bit better. Sounds to me you bought the right one though, covers all your spine, now get it fitted to your shape.

If you're not completely happy - don't buy either
I struggle to get a jacket that fits me, could've bought 3 or 4 that were either a slightly funny fit, too tight or too big
So rather than buy any of them I waited, and was frustrated for a few months but then I found a perfect fit.

I also have broad shoulders and a long torso. I found that what fits me best is a Hincapie jersey in a men's small. Other men's smalls fit, too, but it's hit & miss. I can wear a women's medium in Verge stuff, too, as long as I make sure my shorts are pulled up & secured (or if I wear bib shorts).

I highly recommend bib shorts, because then if your shirt is a little short, you won't have plumber's butt. Also, tri tops tend to be a lot shorter than regular roadie tops.

Cruiser riders never have this problem. They just say theyve lost weight. or use it as an excuse to have more beers and stack on a few more pounds to fill out the jacket.

I kinda have the same problem - I'm 6"1ish, 70something kg. Not the most intimidating frame on me. And jackets of sufficient length tend to be too baggy. Could be the same "problem" you have - or should i say "our JACKETS have"?

I use the winter as an opportunity to wear a hoodie, and I fill out my jacket PERfectly...
And in summer, the slightly oversized jacket can be considered to provide "extreme ventilation"

My jacket is baggy too....when I only have one layer on underneath
Try wearing a few more layers under your jacket. If something bad happens you'll have more cushioning and it keeps you warm in winter

The advise we give to all our customers is "tight as practicably possible"

ie consider back protectors extra clothing etc but with that in mind get it as tight as you can.

Leather does give and it gives the most where it is tightest and a Jacket will go up half a size with use ie if its a 42 it will end up like a 43 (not that you can get a 43 but you get the drift)

If your jacket is loose it will ride up or around the body making further injuries likely in a crash event, as well as potential jacket abrasion (like road rash) on your skin.
