Good luck for the R test Dazz. I've got mine booked for the end of the month, so I'm keen to hear how (and where) it goes. When I booked I asked about the headset (or not) and they said, yes it would be someone in a car following with a headset. Just out of interest - did you have any trouble with the eye-sight machine? I could not for the life of me see three columns. Had to go and pay $20 to visit the optometrist who said my eyesight was fine. Went back to the AA and they said "oh yeah, it happens to lots of people". I'm thinking maybe I need to contact LTSA and suggest the machine has a once over or something because it seems unfair if lots of people are having to fork out $$$ to an optometrist for nothing.

Also - wondering if any of the Waikato Laxed Out riders have time free during the weeks to go riding between 9-3ish. Unfortunately most of my work is in the evenings and weekends (GRRR!), but would still like to have others to ride with. Have to work it around school drop-off and pick-up too. Just putting it out there.

Good luck there are a few around who may be interested but its hard enough to get LOR's to ride on Sundays lately. Seems hibernation has set in at the end of summer. For those interested will look at a route for Sunday at the pub meeting tonight (if anyone shows up - poorest turn out yet last week)

    Friday 9
    Fine with not much wind.
    Saturday 10
    Fine. Light winds.
    Sunday 11
Mainly fine with not much wind.
    Monday 12
    Dry with light winds

    Hey Rusty

Will let you know how I get on.
I really struggled with the eyesight machine too but it was at VTNZ - I had to close one eye to see the 1st column. My wife looked in, cause I told the joker there his machine was faulty, but she could see it fine (or so she reckons the smart b*tch!!).

I work gentlemen's hours - 7:45 -4:15 Mon-Fri so no good for riding during that time sorry

Those machine's use prsim's to simulate distance, i can't see a thing through them - had to go to an optometrist for every licence and level grrr...

    Good luck with your test!

Ah bugger will be in Taupo on Sunday

I am free Monday so i could be keen for a ride somewhere just give me a yell if ya want me rusty.

My restricted route (which i did end of last year) was this

Started at A. Pulled into carparking area at C. Road through to G where we stopped again ( i had roadworks on Spenser road so had to stick to 30 or 40). Then road to H where the test stopped (as in he had seen enough by then so didn't have to keep him in sight) and road back to the AA.

You may have a different route though!

No U-Turns for me just the smallish roundabout by the uni. Everything is explained before the test and there is no reason to be nervous. Make sure everything is working on the bike and ride safely! Turn your head to check down all the roads you pass and check both ways at the railway tracks.

Has he finished cleaning his bike? That place sounds interesting. Brooke suggested heading down for at least brekky on Sunday to catch up so we should see you guys there.

    Cool, I'm in.

Re: the pub night - I'm usually busy on Wednesday evenings but rolled on down to the Te Rapa Tavern about 3-4 weeks back; no bikes in the carpark and the place seemed quite busy so I didn't go in...

Cool. I managed to re-jig things in my weekend so jumping on the Laxed Out Ride, but could still be up for a run on Monday (maybe grab that latest tag?) Will let you know closer to the time.

Thanks for that! Good to have a solid idea of the length of the ride. Yeah, by all accounts sounds like the R test is a doddle as long as you don't ride like you're trying to win a race. Might even drag out an old work hi-vis for the occasion, or perhaps that's brown-nosing it a bit too much?
