That's your first mistake, North is always uphill. So if you're going downhill, you're heading south. But the other rule of thumb is south is always behind you. So clearly if you're going down hill you're heading west because south down + south behind cancels each other out. Personally the "south behind" rule just sounds silly so I always go up north is up and south is down. Easy.
Ummmm is anyone ever really lost???? We always end up somewhere......whether its where we want to be is beside the point.
