LOR have just been there, road conditions better on the west side of east coast, road melting from midday on if weather stays the same as what we have had lately, gentle annie in good nick with little grit here & there ( watch out for the last 20km heading into taihape, road dodgy in parts ) Top10 holiday parks are cheap for a cabin, better chance of petrol at Waihau bay than Te araroa, next stop Tolaga bay for gas..... fireblade on Tiniroto rd must do
I Used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass

Which holiday park did you get a cheap cabin at? I wanna get to Opotiki or even Hicks Bay for the first night and round to Napier the next day. Am thinking of a cabin one night and roughing it another to keep the costs down

Waihau Bay Lodge is where we stayed but there's plenty of others all the way up the coast, Hicks bay could be $$$$ but worth a try or contact Pihi @ Maraehako Bay retreat 07 325 2648 i've never stayed there ( will be next month ) but Mills ( rideon ) has & recommends it, bunks, dorms & single rooms right on the coast

I'll have to pass on this one Al - used all me money on gas for the funeral run yesterday.

Also had a relay go tits up on the way home - the one that powers the distributiion block - from which run things like GPS and RD. Had to unplug both. The relay kept switching on and off all the time causing all sorts of grief.

Pulled the old one out this morning - yep, it's fucked all right. Seems under the seat is not as dry a spot as I had believed. The insides of the relay were a mess. I'm amazed it still functioned at all being full of rust and crap. Must have been like that a long time.

Still, new relay from Jaycars for $11.00 and all is go again. This time I have sealed around the lid of the relay with silicone. Might keep it drier. Maybe.

Is it recommended to do the coast road instead of opotiki-gisborne down the middle? What are the distances between fuel stops on the coast? I'm looking at doing the same ride as Damantis next week but don't know about fuel range (except after Taihape I'll head towards taumaranui and head to welly via worlds forgotten highway). cheers.
Damantis if you can do it next week and want another bike to tag along gimme a yell.

jump on google maps or motowhere.com which will give you km's so you can work out route, through the Waioeka gorge or around the coast either is awesome West to east, petrol available at Waihau Bay 91 & 95, Te araroa 91 only I think but opening hours a bit phone them before hand, ruatoria if your keen Tokomaru bay 91 only & eft pos or credit card only, Tolaga bay 91 & 95 available, from memory Waihau bay to Tolaga bay is @173km
