Hey all am trying to organise a ride from hamilton out to port waikato via SH22 and te akau is an awesome scenic route and barely any traffic. Some pretty hair corners mind you not for the faint at heart. Was thinking make a day of it grab some fish n chops from the port and then cruise on back. How's the 24th sound y'all? Note: All who participate in this ride please wear the right gear and make sure your bikes are legal thanks! Anyone keen comment bellow I don't mind accommodating for the newer riders.

So are you the bike Police?
Going for a ride with a bunch of mates is just that. To go as far as telling people not to turn up if their bikes are not road legal imply s that you are responsible and believe me if you go down that road and anything happens the poo poo will make something of it, as will ACC.
Every day above ground is a good day!:

Credit for organising and posting up a ride but as Caseye said forget about stipulating legality, ie road worthiness.

Might see you out there sometime.

There is a charity ride on the 24th which is posted up in the calendar. Check it out. I think you will find that most guys will be participating in that. But would love to do the Port Waikato any other time with you

Please remind me not to ride with you.
3 or 4 years ago I was Rider in charge for a Ulysses ride out of Hamilton. One of our members had a very smooth back tyre. It was a fine day so I said nothing. On the way home his wife rode pillion with someone else while he nursed his bike home with the canvass showing on the rear. It is very reasonable on a group ride to ask for a minimum standard of Registration a Warrant of Fitness and a current licence for the class of bike you are riding. On a group ride if one bike goes down others could be taken out as well.

Please see my post above. With great respect may I suggest you think about your own safety before you suggest riding with others who may be happy to ride machines that are not road worthy.

Please explain to me how having a rego makes a bike any safer?

I remember going on a ride with you and I mentioned my rego was out by 1 day. You and your wife both shot daggers at me and said that if you had known that beforehand I wouldn't have been allowed to come on the ride

There have been all sorts of dickheads out on the laxed out rides it is easy to stay clear of them on the road.

Agreed if I saw something inherently dangerious or just unnoticed like a bald tyre/real loose chain I'd be sure to mention it but not in a overbearing way.

Certainly would not inspect licenses or look for registration/wofs as that would certainly appear overbearing/dictatorial.

Otherwise you pretty fast run out of people to ride with.

It swings both ways.... you may not have a warrant but the bike is safe as houses or you may have a warrant that is still current but your tires are now bald (I did 10,000 k's between last warrants) and not safe.... but it meets the std of a current warrant and Reg

A social ride with a group of people that are just going the same way is all most of the rides are.... Each bike rides to his skill set and to his equipment level....

If you slate people who's warrant has expired but the bike is still well maintained but then let a current WOF through that has not been maintained well is it a safer group of riders? I think not.

If someone has not got the coin to Reg his bike and is willing to take the risk of a ticket but the bike is well maintained is he being unsafe?

If you're worried about personal safety, and who isn't, the best strategy surely is to give those you don't know some distance until you get a handle on their ability to handle the bike in whatever shape its in. Is there anything else you need to worry about really? (road conditions aside)

Lol sorry if I sounded like bike police just want to make sure everyone is safe that's all, because the last thing anyone wants to do is call someones wife saying her husband wont be coming home. All I can say is anyone is open to attend but I. Will. Not be held responsible lol and as for the port thing I was pondering on that and thought maybe just go to te akau coast its a good couple of hours long who's keen??

It is a great ride up through there.... just keep an eye out for stock, tractors etc as it is Rural, Some use it as a race track and suffer the consequences. I love the road and all its bumps, dips, and cracks in the road...adds to the experience

I have other rides to attend that weekend.

I'll hoping to be on the charity ride, 9:30 Sun Ham North school, $5 donation, if I'm allowed out

Check it out as it is a 2ish hour ride and often around the same area, Sh22, all levels of ability.
