Parts of that road are really sketchy - almost smooth tar and very slippery when wet. Would be interesting to know whether the road surface was a factor in those crashes.
Funny how the cops never say the road conditions were to blame, just speed and booze.
...has been sealed. After seven years of riding over the three little bits of gravel, I went through there today and they were all sealed up. Never thought I'd live to see the day.

I've ridden through winters over many years but pick my times these days. Worst was riding Putaruru to Rotorua in the early '90's. The old road had more corners back then, more shaded and I'm sure the frosts were heavier and more frequent then. A couple of corners around the 'Highland Hills' farm would hold a good frost throughout the day. Rode a CX500 back then.

I am riding out to Raglan tomorrow with a diversion to the end of the Bridal Veil Falls rd and back again. Same with Ruapuke rd until the gravel, then continue to Raglan.
Will leave the Te A caltex stn about 9.30 and take the Te Pahu road out to the Raglan road. (be there about 10.)
Sunday; 200k and home by lunchtime. Carried on pass the Bridal Falls and looped around Kawhia Te Papatapu roads back to Ruapuke rd (there and back) then back home. Weather was iffy at the start, but turned out good. Took a few photos so will post them and a word or two in my Waikato rides thread. Just have to mow the lawns now before my wife gets home from her work and finds out I've been away riding.
