BB & Dangerous, what top speeds was the Biff Bird getting up to down the straight/s? Having never been there myself, are there any decent straights at Ruapana to wind it up on?

The main straight is 1100m if i remember correctly, certainly not short but not the longest in nz. Think dangerous said he got it up to 240 odd. He said WT was pulling away on him quite easily down the straight.

The front straight is a mean one...not sure on length but the R1 pulls over 270kph, and that was getting passed by K3 gsxr's.........F&%king suzukis

    Looks like an awesome track!

So the mighty R1 *only* manages 270kms or so...were you pushing it to the max? I thought they were capable of more top speed than that.

Zed.... ya right? Now as the bike wasent mine I wasent about to push it too hard, but saw 240-250 (realy prefured to watch were I was going) I entered the straight at a modest speed with WT on my arse, he came around the out side as he had a better head of steam up I sent it to the red in each gear (still pulling) but yes the GSX pulled away.... now were I get soft on it is in the braking dept I have to say when ya get used to the linked brakes they are magic.... but I still through the anchors out early so that is the best top end I got out of it, so for me the straight is too short
By memory I managed 260k out of the Busa but I know that bike better and also have had more than that out of it on the cantabury roads

Just incase any one was woundering the Storm kinda lacked the top end on the frount straight and the bloody thing loves locking up under braking (shiter than shit suspension) alas 220-230 was the top end there, but once again I have seen 260 on the road.

Oi, Deano........ what did the SP1 haul it up to???

They most likley are capable of more, but as long as it is, it still needs to be longer... however in his case...... if both wheels were on the deck causing less wind friction he may have got a higher speed.

Ps: Z flexoplas corner is now renamed R1AaronKDX corner

Like Dangerous, I was concentrating on getting the braking right for the deceiving left hander at the end of the straight. On the one occassion I did look the clock read in the high 230's and was rising.

But I ride like an old woman so never really got the best out of the bike coming around the last corner before the straight. I reckon that 260 + is possible along the straight with someone more capable than I as the pilot.

I doubt most quick road bikes are spending much time in top gear (if they even get there) on that straight. My old FZR has seen an indicated 240 lap after lap, but the chicken shit rider brakes miles too early! That kink in the track before R1AaronKDX corner really tests the nerves at those speeds. The brain is going "AHHHHH- don't want to brake on a corner!!" You can straight line it apparently, but I don't trust myself enough to do it.

I was pushing hard enough to crash:spudwhat: I only get the R1 in2 5th gear, so i guess if i changed the gearing it would go a lil quicker, i have had more out of it but not dwn the straight(not that i was looking at the speedo that often)

All very true Tony, The Storm was just getting into top for a few sec's but then its time to knock it down 2 gears for the kink hold for a sec or 2 then down to 2nd as fast as one can, shit that bastard comes at ya quick and to think the real lads still have the taps open at the kink.... fuk that.

The Bird I never got into top IIRC but was braking later as those linked brakes are sweet once ya get used to them.

I picked up a set of fairings yesterday, and by the time im finnished it will be minter than it was(and look the shit) still might hit up the insu guys depending on how much a new tank, and front bracket cost, but i checked my policy yesterday and i have a $1400 excess so it may just be cheaper to sort it my self.....wont be red anymore tho.......but it will look very prety.

So you are going to paint it blue and white and stick Suzuki stickers on it then?? Still wont be quick enough, but it'll look 10 times better!!
