I Can't wait.
Hampton Downs Ride Days has agreed exclusive rights to run bike track days and the superbike school for 5 years.
Cost will be $199. Weekday events will use the full circuit. Weekend events will use the 2.8km national circuit. ... so for Aucklanders it should be cheaper than the trip to Taupo plus its easy to do in one day.
They expect to be the first to use the track in June and there shouldnt be a problem with grip. The surface is a specialist racing compound with high grip from the start..
Exclusive means exclusive. The track have struck deals with other companys to provide car track days, and training days etc... Its all about maintaining an "assured" standard and for insurance reasons apparently. Personally I think a bit of competition would be healthy for the track day scene but thats the way its gone... They did the same at Phillip Island and Eastern creek I believe...
This looks good for folks who live further away.
From the Hampton Downs website :
there's also a campground.Completion of Hampton Downs moved a step closer with the delivery of furniture to the appartments. Rental of the apartments will start 1st May 2009. They operate like Motels and will sleep up to 5 people per night for $250 per night. So if you are visting Auckland or Hamilton give Jamie a call on 09 5207841 and make a booking.
Still can't get my head past $200.00..... thats a lotta moolah when you want to do a couple of track days a month. Are they doing anything extra with their track days that justifies the extra $$$
Not paying for Gas to and from Taupo, plus accommodation, not to mention a more interesting (and technical?) track to have fun on.
"It would be spiteful, to put jellyfish in a trifle."\m/ o.o \m/
We in NZ have it easy as far as trackday costs go. Generally because of the quality of the tracks. Hampton Downs is supposed to be in a whole new league as far as NZ tracks go. This is part of the cost.
I know the people running the ride days and superbike school and you can expect the safest most well run days we've seen.
Hampton Downs Ride Days will have tyre sales/fitting and mechanical service facilities and a few other extra's that will differentiate it from the current group of trackday companies.
Expect the best.
$200 does sound a bit steep.
Will definitely try it and see if it's Value For Money
