you got a photo of one?
lol, thats the one, it's actually a minter and as original as hell apart from the exhaust. Yup, it has an aftermarket Hyper Pak unit and was given the original ignition box as well, neither produre spark, everything else, triggers, coils etc check out so it can only be the ignition box, just gotta bloody find one now that isn't the price of gold.
I had a crack at it too. I could see it was a minter, but my heart wasn't really in it.
He said he rode it home & washed it & it wouldn't go a few weeks later.
My money was on the killswitch contacts being corroded.
Have you pulled that apart & hit it with aerosol products?
Before you spend a fortune, have you been through all the relevant wiring connectors with WD40, contact cleaner or both?
I have a Early GSXR400 box that works, it may have the wrong timing map, but if it plugs in & runs it, then it proves a point.
Can you post up a pic of your wiring plug?
Yup, it is a goodie, I'm a bit of a fan of the old things so yea, ended up with it, yup, I was thinking the same exact thing but nope, it all checks out, the igniter it getting power as are the coils. I have a full service manual for it all the resistances for the triggers etc are all good. The guy I got it off has known all the owners since it was only 15,000km old. It died on one previous owner which was from the OE igniter dying and that was replaced with the HyperPak one which now seems to of also died. Talking a long time between the two failures though, about 15 years. Will jack up a pic, some bugger has chopped and changed the connectors to the ignition box which is a bugger but I'll put it all back to factory.
Same as this one. Where abouts are you located?
Okay, replying publicly to a PM. The hyperpac is NZ made. Electronic Research and Development in Auckland. He's done replacement ignition modules since the 80's. The wiring will have been chopped to suit his plug on his module. They're a good product which I understand he still does. Price is quite reasonable compared to your other alternative of a Dyna conversion.
Any secondhand stock ignitor you find is going to be a risk. They're all getting old.
I can't post a link to E R & D - but google is your friend.
Cheers, all, yup found the E R & D page. Bit reluctant to try one of his again as this current one has failed and I've dealt with them before and also had failures so yea, will prolly leave that as a last option.
I fixed a 400 one recently, pull it apart and see if you can see some dead parts. In this case a Grey 3 legged Hitachi Transistor which was obviously cooked.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
