These are not iconic. Or that rare.

An honest workhorse back in the day. Still useable as a tourer or general getabout. But 130k it wouldn't be worth spending money on it. 5k purchase? Get real.

Fucking great '80s UJM motorcycles though.

That engine was still being produced years later until Kwaka 750s whent to liquid cooled engines and ended what was the air cooled 650-750 lineage.

There weren't that many shaft drive GT750s around at the time either.

You really need to jump off that high horse of yours F5 Dave.

Of course you can not ride all day long over every hill or dale at 170kmp on it outside city limits and fall into ditches on it.

I went from a Kawasaki KMX 125 to one of those, 18 months later I started shaving. From new it sounded like a sack of hammers cold. IIRC I ground through the centre stand courtesy of BT45's. Dispatchers loved em, but usually the 550, cheaper insurance.

Venerable bike but developed a nasty tank slapper approaching 120mph (indicated...), not a lot of puff left to get past it. I did close to 150'000 miles on mine before some dick head rear ended it and drove the shaft into the motor.

The self cancelling indicators still tickled me when it got trashed.

    Thanks for the mammary's.

They aren't rare or particularly special. The Z750's had the same engine. I know of three GT's in Otago that are legal and running.

Suzuki had a greater range of shaft drive motorcycles in that era ... but the Kawasaki was popular.

This one might need a top end refresh ... but probably bugger all else. Parts shouldn't be a big issue.

    I wouldn't pay $5000 for it.

That's the asking price. Anyone with common sense knows that it wont sell for that much. Negotiation is a thing you know.

In saying that '80s era motorcycle is going up in price. Just like '70s era has. And because the air cooled Kwaka 750 engines had a ralitively long production run parts are not going to be a broblem. Just like parts for my '76 CB550F are a piece of piss to get. Even 600 kits for them. Can be delivered within a week from overseas even with this Covid thing going on. Mines still on standard piston/rings and has done a 163,000 plus kms.

Considering what else Kawasaki had at the time, the GT does not seem like an appreciating classic.

    It was reliable transport.

Even with my rosey tints on I would struggle to consider putting a minter in the shed if it was gifted.
