bit of a benchmark with being the first of the dohc four valve hondas, a lot of people collect what they had, or what they dreamed of, many people had these.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the 16V Hondas. The 750 would have been the collectible IMO - but I've seen too many of that family with broken camchains. Both the SOHC 650 and the DOHC 900 come in Hondas "piss poor camchain tensioner" period.

This dealer wants to sell you a 2015 Speed Triple (ignore the listing headline, this is a 2015 model year, not yet registered) for MORE than the price of a brand new 2017 Speed Triple R, which is a significant upgrade over the old one.

I don't understand why dealers hang onto old bikes like this - discount the thing, get rid of it. No one wants a previous-generation model that's now 2 years out of date, unless at a steep discount.

    But it's Yellow !

It's a well known fact that Yellow bikes are worth thousands more and do not ever become obsolete

Well, I found the one other person, other than Frosty, who thinks the XJ900 is the best motorcycle ever.

And, of course, there's the ubiquitous exhaust wrap too...

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

many harleys out there way more expensive than this and way slower, compare this to a McIntosh manx norton or one of his Bathurst Replicas and it's a bargain....

Forget the Harleys Spider. But to compare a bike he's not yet built...to a McIntosh or a Manx? Stay of the bong cabbage mate.

That 1200, wtf? Its not even got the Yoshi headers some came with. Epic chicken strips as well.

TBH I think its competitive with what it would cost you to build that anywhere in the world. Its clearly aimed at the AC Sanctuary or one of the other Japanese places, its built by someone with an as you said legendary reputation, as a business, and its got all the bits you would want if you were doing one yourself. As someone else pointed out, CVO Harleys at $55k and up sell pretty well.

I actually quite like that, other than the exhaust wrap of course, and some sort of mudguards just because it bugs me looking at a bike without any.

Don't know if I'd pay the buy now price though....
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987
