Me and what I'm up to...

Ok, so I don't get kicked out again for a while..

I've been around KB for ages, most of ya will know who I am.

Here's the old girl and what's up with it and why you haven't seen me out on a ride yet.....
(I'm gonna copy/ paste from another site I use...too much typing...)

Better say where I started...Gpz 750 turbo, 810 kit, fzr thou front and rear end, Marvic mag rims, 'link' ecu, ihi turbo, cyborg intercooler etc, last dyno run ran 176 hp and 111 ft lbs @ 15lbs boost running out of fuel at 8000 rpm, since then I fitted a second fuel pump and have run it regularly @ 30 psi....enough power to lift the front in at least 4th gear....

Righto, a few years back I had an issue with the clutch on the 750 turbo when it self destructed when I slipped it a bit at 200 odd k to bring the front back down at the strip, so I did the normal thing and decided there was an issue with the stock setup that caused them to break the friction plates, so set about modifying it. Nothing too major, I figured the problem was the thin tin backing plate letting the outside hub 'wobble' compared to the inner, so set about machining up a heavier plate and bolting rather than riveting it on.

While it was apart I (well my mate anyway...) found a guy in Aussie that can re-line bike plates with a special brew that'll take about a million hp so I sent them away to get done.
The down side to this is it left a non-mobile bike sitting at home, and me with time to think....
I decided to pull the sump to do a mod from lorcans turbo site (www.750turbo.com), and it all went downhill from there...so far I've made a whole new intake system, bigger intercooler and a big single throttle body off a skyline...

I also cut off the rear subframe and made a new one to give me more room for the two fuel pumps I ran then to keep up with the engine (cheaper than a big aftermarket one and easier to get here...) , running R1 rear plastic. Then promptly found a walbro in-tank pump to use....

I've forgotten half the shit I've done....modded the turbo for better flow, fitted an external wastegate, lengthened and braced the arm, beefier engine mounts, total re-wire, aftermarket tacho etc etc...

It's been about 5 years though, and it's about bloody time it was going again, so that's the aim now....but I did find the front calipers off my mrs R6 fit....so....

Been a fair while since I've been in here, so a little update is in order....
Finally got to pulling the motor down...not good, spun a big end coz some clown at either Kawasaki NZ or the factory put one of the rods in backwards....and a cap on backwards on one of the others. Thankfully the crank and rod is still ok.
And it had broken the case bolt behind the countershaft bearing and ovalled the hole...I'll weld machine this to sort it out....and use 8mm bolts around the tranny shafts instead of the stock 6mm.

After dicking around trying to get some APE main bolts (they aren't real helpful) I'm gonna fit some 9mm FZR thou one's to it. (up from 8mm)
Got a different gauge setup coming (thanks to some tosser on the turbo site posting up about it, damn you!) from a chinese crowd called danmoto ( http://www.dan-moto.com/ ) so I'll see how that goes.

Made up some extended fork caps and new clipon mounts too.

otherwise it's just been all the shit jobs of sanding and painting and stuff. getting there.

Spent the last week or 2 on the bodywork, should be painted this weekend.
Got the gauge today, good size, just gotta figure out the wiring, the instructions are rather vague...
And gotta stop looking at the Link website...the new G4 Storm looks the shit, lots of programmable inputs/outputs and stuff like anti-lag

Wow! Thanks for bringing things up to a whole new lever of horsepower!

The Westie in me is in awe

The Link engine management system- I presume it is a plug and play setup that controls the ignition and fuel delivery programmable from data of exhaust lambda?
Sorry, I'm still playing with points and distributors but interested in technology none the less.. I

I have one of these: http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/lm1.php which I am still playing with but in the context of fuel/air/carburation- child's play compared to that Link setup I am guessing?

My link is an older one, standalone fuel only management, though I can get it set up for ignition too. It comes as a blank canvas, you set up the fuel on a table that measures throttle position/map (manifold absolute pressure) over rpm. It's actually easier in some ways than carbs, it's all adjusted at the push of a button, though there are a lot more adjustments...
It can run closed loop (self tuning), but only is compatible with a narrow band sensor.
This is the g4 storm I'm looking seriously at.... http://www.linkecu.com/products/engi...-ecus/g4-storm ...has lotsa cool features, like launch control, flat shift and (my favorite) anti-lag, 3 and 5d maps plus a shitload of other stuff .

When this is up and running again it should be around 250hp @ 30 psi boost....

Nice bike, Be handfull and a half to ride ;-)

When do yout think it will be on the road /drag strip again?

Would do a mean 1/4 mile time

Sign up now for the Bert tour. With that bike, you could leave a week after us and still beat us there.

A very nice job you have done there. I love bike porn....

Mate, that sort of intro with THAT many pickies of a real project I think should last a lifetime membership

    Thank you for sharing

Yeah, thanks Mr Death your intro got me looking into programmable ignitions again. So much has changed since I last looked into it in 2005 and ended up with a SteinDense crank trigger system.

There's a few of these running that sort of hp, it's about the limit of what they'll take on a stock bottom end tho...
Yeh, it's a handfull orright, it goes from f/a power at anything below 6000rpm to all of it by about 6500rpm, like a 2 stroke MX bike on 'roids..... but it's fun
I've given up predicting when it'll be done....I've said 'by christmas' so many times even I don't believe it anymore..... but I'm pushing pretty hard to get it done at the moment, so as long as there are no more setbacks....
I've had it to the strip a while ago, it ran a 10.7 alternately spinning the rear tyre or slipping the clutch at hot sunday street meet. The aim is to run consistent 9's.

Orrighty, got the green stuff on it, here's a couple of mock ups.....though as usual nothing fits as nice as before I painted it

Also got some brake lines made up by a local fella who does lotsa race car stuff (Znoelli in manukau) , bloody nice too, in fact they make the galfer lines on the mrs R6 look like crap

And I also got the gauge a week or so ago, gonna get that mounted up over the weekend. It doesn't have an oil pressure light though, so I may just wire that to the fuel gauge (I ditched the sender and shit long ago) when it has pressure it'll show full, if it drops it it'll show empty and the low fuel light will come on. Unless someone can come up with a compact electrical sender that I can wire up to make it go up and down with the pressure...any ideas?
The buggers at 750turbo.com also discovered that the ZR7 oil pump fits and is biggerer so I gotta get one of them too. Can anyone recommend a good genuine parts supplier that isn't the robbery company of Kawasaki NZ?

Those lines look lovely! Are the banjo ends stainless?

Re oil pressure gauge, I would go to pick a part and fill me pockets with different car ones and try them to see how they act on the fuel gauge for free- they don't call me Dodgy for nothing ya know. You can get tiny aftermarket sender and gauge units of about 60mm dia, would mounting the whole unit in the fuel gauge hole be fairly straight forward?

I would go to pick a part and fill me pockets
they make you empty out your pockets and even do a sock check .....you have to use 'mule' methods now....careful with light bulbs...

Good to see I'm not the only one with a less than immaculate garage.... more work less tidying I say.

    DEATH_INC.
Yep, stainless ends specially made for him along with the plastic sheaths right here in NZ.
Can't fit a unit into the gauge hole, I'm running that digital gauge up the page a bit. May hafta go search the catalogue down at appco or summat...
What do ya mean 'not tidy'???? It's bloody immaculate at the moment....you can even walk from one side to the other
