Welcome, thats a pretty serious bike you have there. They can be temprement at times (electrics) and need to be serviced fairly religeously but are seriously rewarding to ride. Can bring out riding confidence very easily and handle like nothing on earth.

Can you do basic maintenance yourself? Its not hard to do on most Duc's and I find its part of the fun. If you keep your servicing up they are a pretty bulletproof unit and will provide years of riding. PM me if you want some useful website links on the mighty SS (parts, servicing and the whole social scene) and I'll hook you up. Much like Harleys and such you've bought into a bit of an experience rather than just a bike.

You have to post up some pics.

89 I think was dry clutch (or at least the one I rode a couple of months back) which are nosiy from the factory, sounds like a baked bean can full of gravel being shaken up

Congrads on the purchase.

Ha ha - I saw one a few months ago and that's just the sound at idle - a couple of chaps walking past looked at it and muttered, 'it's about to blow'!

It's very easy to change the friction plates yourself.

Talk to these guys, they are in Dunedin.

Um... He? Surely you mean SHE.

Has SHE got an adjustable span clutch lever? If so maybe you just need to play around with that first.

There's a guy at Rogers Yamaha in Leet St that specialises in European bikes.
I can't remember his name at the moment sorry - Stu I think but I can't be sure.
I've only heard good things about him.

A Blue one! :2thumbsup Nice to see something different from red. And it looks like you got it at a good price.

And another Duke in Invercargill.

I take my Duc to Rodgers Yamaha, they have experience with Ducatis. Must say I've always liked the 900SS. There are quite a few Ducs around Invercargill so probably an enthusiast somewhere who can give you advice.

Apart from that the web has plenty to offer. DucatiMS is always helpful http://www.ducati.ms/forums/index.php

Yeah Stu is a really nice guy. He is familiar with Dukes and has a mate with an ST4. Plus they usually have a couple of Ducatis for sale most of the time. He just did the 20k check on my bike. And I have the bill.....:pinch:

I just brought one last month. 89 900ss after 10 years of waiting. I've taken it for a couple spins but the front fork seal has started leaking so it will have to be sorted. keep me posted on how you get on with your clutch. Has it got braided lines for the clutch? Or the original lever set up? The bike runs rough down low under 3000rpm. I have been told and read this is due to the webber. I am going to take some time and clean the filter etc see if it improves.
