Aye? Was that trench in the race? i didnt see it ;o?
And by the way, the amount of cheating in that race was amazing. I had dudes go on completely different tracks, only to find them about 20/30 seconds ahead of me when I was origionally in the lead... Pissed me off abit.
Soooooo many major corners cut.
Yea completely different tracks was crazy like wtf? I appreciated the side tracks last lap when it was a really whooped section (like everywhere lol)

Ahemm.. Ok it was our first race event, and yes we learn't heaps.
we learnt to like make sure that the guys arrowing know what they are doing!. Hi vis arrows are now a must!!, Bunting off corners etc about 5 -10 metres after a corner(change of direction) so that those who can't stop don't cut the bunting and therefore make a track for others to follow. We wll review this and only get better.
Yes, we had a few that for one reason or another took the wrong path and I don't think they did this on purpose. It was our fault and we soon remedied any short cuts at the beginning of the second lap.
It was a huge ask and generally we had 95% positive feed back.
The next rounds will be easier to follow as there are not so many original criss cross tracks that can confuse folks.
There will be no short cuts in round two.
Anyway thanks to all that entered. I'm buggered:mellow:

Mixed bag for me, rode like a sloth & couldn't get decent concentration happening. I scoffed No-doz before race hoping it'd wake me up and sharpen focus didn't seem to work very well. Maybe a bit too wired. Got a good start, but tucked the front end on a corner not long after & lost a whole bunch of places. On the other hand it was really satisfying doing the solo class, got 5 laps in without the expected major leg cramps. Last lap a real battle though. (FlyingCR I've had to do those 'leap out the car, cramp dances' more often than I'd like , very friggen painful. Try stretching a bit before getting into car. Seems to help get rid of some lactic acid)
A big thankyou to KTMboy & crew (Grant from Spectrum in there too I think?) for all the work that went into making it all happen. I thought event went extremely well. I was a bit iffy about the short start straight & first corner, but it seemed to work nicely. Not enough time to get high speed but enough space to jockey into positions.
At briefing your heads-up on the course sections to watch out for was absolutely spot on. I'm sure you saved a few bods from some unwanted soil sampling. A mate reckoned he spent 10 minutes stuck in right hand side of that bog!
PS hard to mark a course on area that gets ridden a fair bit. Lots of different 'old' trails in same spot & only takes a few riders take a slight different line that can end up a fair way off real track.
Bloody Great event. Tony :2humbsup:niceone::rockon:and thanks to all the guys that helped to put it on. Reckon you did a fantastic job but you need one of these:mega:

Agree with earlier comments 'bout guys taking short cuts same as Cheese - had a couple guys I over took only to have to do it over again because they got in front of me by cutting great bits of the corners/track out - bloody annoying. Anyway doesn't detract from an awesome day.

im sure if you wemt straight ahead after the bog instead of turning right you would have found it big short cut that would have cut out that whole toi toi bush section guess you would have saved time as long as you didnt get stuck looks deep.

I don’t think so maybe you should learn to ride before you start yelling or beeping your horn at people who are not as fast as you, if you are that good a rider you would be able to pass without any fuss all yelling does is unnerve people and could cause an accident. Yes if he needs to im sure he does yell mate, just like everyone else.. If there is little room to move which in some parts there wasnt and some times people cant hear you come up behind them. Sometimes noise is needed, not obsenitys, just noise. hmmm, dont think you needed to take that quite so personally, but hey.
It is a valid point - perhaps not delivered in the most pc fashion, personally if i had someone yelling at me it would totally put me off for a moment or two (and as i am what i am i would probably hunt them down in the pits.....) is always good form to recognize others may not be as fast/confidant as you. Not to mention they mite not know the track as well as you do .......ahhhh seeing as they didnt get to put the arrows out and get familiar with the track before raceday........HAH howdya like them beans?:done:

Well, for what should have rightfully been a crappy day for us (with all the mechanical faults) I can't bring myself to be in a bad mood over it because of all the lovely KBers and other people who helped us out yesterday:love:
Buffy, who got us there in the first place after seeing us with the mighty peoplemover all in a shambles broken down up the top of muriwai, you're awesome! We were seriously considering just riding the bikes in at that point, didn't want to upset the neighbourhood and get the organisers in the poo tho, haha.
The organisers!! Who put on a very cool event, and let us sign in even though we were really late after the car troubles. I loved the setup, it was so wicked being able to see bits of the race from the sidelines, the track was really cool, lots of nice forks in the track where you could overtake/pick different lines too. I know people don't like woops, but I thought they were great since I passed lots of people on them :shifty: Thanks to my towie on the quad too, for anyone who thought the roots were bad, they're much worse to go over while being towed by a quad :bleh: but we made it out safe and sound. Krad then doubled me back to sign in and I ran/hobbled as best as can be done in bike boots to get our transponder in...Wonder what my lap time was...:innocent:
Barty's pit tent was great, and the consolation prize for coming last was much appreciated, don't think I can bring myself to taste defeat just yet, I hear it tastes like aspartame ;)
All the KBers who hung out with me at the bottom of the hill and tried to make my bike go, it was a no go  but the company and the effort was much appreciated! The bottom of the hill was a cool place to be stopped at least, I got to watch lots of crashes and got a lot of 'WOO HOO!'s from passer-bys. Wish I had my point and shoot, I normally pack it but figured I wouldn't need it in a race! So many faceplants...
Reckless and Oldskool for their kind offers to tow us out, cheers fullas :)
and finally..
CLMINITE!:sunny: Who was the total man and got us and our bikes home, who faced the driveway ditch of doom and survived, and managed to have a great attitude the whole time! I can't say thank you enough!! Me and krad and meatbomb will definitely have to pay it forward some day
Yup, so, very exciting day. And I am knackered now. Woke up with a killer headache and took a sick day. All things going well we'll have working bikes and a working vehicle and be back for round two, maybe even get the chance to help some other people out :)

I always find it tricky to work out best approach when letting faster riders through.
It's bloody difficult to concentrate on what you're doing and also monitor how close a following rider is getting. I usually move over & tip my head or flick a hand out to indicate side I'm suggesting they pass on so they can be sure I'm not going to veer onto that line. Seems to go down well, 9/10 times you'll get a 'thanks mate.'
Often I'd deliberately take a crappy line to let someone through. Other times I either slowed right down at passing moment or even pulled over & stopped. But if you loose 5 seconds 12 times, that's a big fat minute off your own lap time. Us average guys are racing & testing ourselves as well & wanting a decent result for our ability level. (keen to see those results, stop teasing KTMboy! lol)
Seems the rev engine trick can easily piss people off if you do it straight away, especially in a spot that doesn't offer a pass opportunity. I hardly ever do it but then some dudes seem to make no effort to let you through. The ones who are just a bit slower are by far the hardest to pass. In frustration I sometimes took some pretty dodgy lines to get by.
Was very aware that doing solo, i had to save energy so couldn't go too ballistic anywhere, so i put extra effort into not to slowing anyone up because it really was a two-man event after all. Oddly, sometimes I'd let a rider pass & they would then slow down & I'd end up having to pass them back again (tortise & hare factor, lol). Passed a few on that marble surface uphill (before the deep sand climb). Gave myself one wee fright on that, but found you could you fly up if easy on the throttle.
Buffstar, so that was you cheering us on at end of start straight? I really appreciated that big time! Got a huge boost from it & was able to dig a bit deeper. Cheers.

had to have a recovery day off work today I'm sore all over wish Id done some training before hand. rekon that puddle was the best bit of the track everyone stuffing around trying to dodge it made the bogs on the sides deeper than the puddle. have know Idea where that rut was jt but there were lots of detours was a massive section cut out of the track near the start think it was marked with orange arrows went straight ahead instead of down towards the road i went down towards the road each time but was never sure if I was going the right way. that soft sandy hill with the woops was a killer everytime I went up that slppery rocky hill I got some energy back only to loose it all in those woops .
Had a plenty of people pass me but I also passed a few of them back to I just figure it a race I'm not stoping if theres a straight wideish bit I'll hug one side and if they want to it they can pass me if not ...
big thanks to tony and the crew was an awsome event probably won't be here for the next one but lookn forward to the last one

Yeah, most of centre was just way too skatey, I tried the other side but tucking into hard left worked the best for me. Feel slightly good that I at least found one good line chop! With so many variations through trees was hard to remember all the best ones. Found a perfect one only a foot off one particular beefy whoop section through toi-toi. Smooth sailing all the way up. Weird as almost no-one was using it.

am working on him now......he did the 2man last year with Darren and I went in the ladies with Tracy....... the boys didnt really like the tight stuff that time around, but I think the general concensus is that the new organizers are putting on a better quality ride - not wanting to offend anyone with that comment - tis just the word on the street

You've checked the kill switch thing as suggested before!
and a loose or dodgy connection anywhere in the circuit!
OK then here we go!
Firstly do you have spark at the plug when kicking it over with the plug in the cap an resting/earthing on the engine.
If not try a new plug
If still no spark cut the lead like I described and refit the cap try again! Having a good look at the old lead for breaks.
You could hold the end of the lead (using pliers) with the newly cut end 3mm from the plug while its in the head and see if spark jumps the gap when you kick it, as a test.
If you get spark another cap is needed!
If still no spark take the cover of the magneto side and make sure it isn't full of water and rust.
Pretty simple little tests that will eliminate alot of troublesome areas.
Then you might have to look at
the plug lead or coil or CDI or get someone who knows!
Best I can do over the net!

Done this, it's sweet :) Got spark, fuel is free flowing, and compression is good with lovely new piston and rings.

0.2c - Getting spark so doesn't sound like kill switch - BUT they can cause intermittant probs when knocked about. The switch (on handlebar) is really quite flimsy inside. Mine was a bit manky when I pulled it apart to check, resoldered terminals etc but really better to replace if any doubt, They're about $25 i think.

OK so you've got spark at the plug. Is it a good fat blue spark or a barely visable thin thing?? Just because you can see some sort of spark doesn't mean its good enough to make it go? If its a good spark then Electrics may not be your problem unless the timing has gone way way off??
Secondly just because the fuel is free flowing out the hose doesn't mean its getting to the cyclinder. After a few kicks with the choke on or throttle open remove the plug does it look wet like the fuel is present?? You have just had it apart maybe if the electrics are ok there is some shit in the carb??
Dunno pretty hard over the net?

Yeah, it's probably fine but they can seem ok then play up. Made me think of it again because bike seems to be a prob when she falls off? Maybe the little plate that completes the circuit inside switch is getting jammed on then popping back again later.
Edit: Uh, I thought bike was going again but just trying to suss out why it stops?

Heres a similarity.Well sort of.
I run a bike park as most know, part time. Yes I still need the day job. We have huge over heads(the tractor clunked last week so 45k for a replacement).
For a couple of months we have been in discussion with another private forestry block owner on South head. Best riding in the whole of Woodhill.
Well a few fuckwits from Silverdale have been illegally riding rather than paying like 99.9% of others do to ride. Well the second round of the two man has changed location because the land owner told us to go and get fucked because offroad motorbike riders are all dick heads. A few buggered it for the rest.
Yes we are going via Rimmers, the Otakanini Topu trust have allowed us access through the Maori Block.
We are freakin lucky to even have this as some dicks on bikes, you know the ones that park at the 10 mile carpark and say "we're only going up the beach" cut their fences last weekend and they lost 50 head of Angus cows in calf. They had a chopper up there today trying to find them. We, as a sport, are not doing well at enduring ourselves to the general public are we? I'll pay any one who can spot people riding outside of the park, its our freakin duty to protect our riding for all!!
Anyway its a ten minute drive(slowly please) to the site from The Sandpit.
Totally cool terrain. If you go off course on his one it will hurt you time wise. Or else you'll end up lost big time LOL. Lots of fresh stuff as we have been in there a bit pruning.

Haha, yeah we joked about this. There are a couple of very fast corners right next to the lakes. I mean about 5-10 metres away. Misjudge these and you go for a swim LOL. Could be a good place to get a minty photo.
