"Ok then", he says with a deep breath...what the F..k have we got into.

Anyway, our core objective from day one was to provide a great location to ride bikes. Trail rides only.

Well there is no 2 Man organised this year in Woodhill through winter and we've sort of been inundated with folks saying "go on put one on"

Well after much deliberation we thought "Freakin Oath":first::second::third:

So pencil in Sun July 26th, Sun Aug 30th and Sun 27th Sept.
The flyers will be out shortly so make a date.
We hope to make this a really fun event but realise that this still totally new to us. Hope it works out OK. Please be tolerant.:niceone:

8-13yrs is junior. This is not an enduro with timed special stages. Its a X country but in the Forestry.

You just start, ride like your bike is stolen for about 35min then tag your mate and he does the next lap.
Bring your fag mates along and see how they handle it.

Well the first round will be very similar to the terrain where the Waitemata ride is on this Sunday. So if you want a heads up, ride this to get a feel for the race. Race 2 will be right up north where we had a trail ride Nov last year.
Easy for the Juniors/ ladies but it will be challenging for the pro/ expert.

Round three is special. Oh yes!!!

Well, we've made sure the Father/Son and the mixed classes are included as after all this is as much about participating and feeling comfortable in doing so as it is about being competitive.

The WMCC ride yesterday would be the clubmens, expert, pro equivalent with by passes for the novices. Longer but easier, so could loose time either way. your choose.

The ladies and junior would see laps around the 10-15 minute mark.

A flyer will be posted shortly. Come on Redrider sort ya act out. He he

Nah all good mate, I'll be back better, faster, stronger....

Just seen the poster, would it not be easier for all just to have the solo go for the same length as the Sarah Charlies and make it an Ironman? Your event so what ever but would seem easier to run that way to me. I take it no MNZ license is required?

Good to see the new park rules Tony, especially the ones about noisy bikes and speed in the car park. Hopefully they are enforced.

Just a query about this, remember I have not entered a two man before so could be talking a load of shite but here goes...
I thought the intention of the two man was to provide an entry level, fun competition for all grades of riders, I'm a bit concerned that the no friends class has already changed from 2 hours to 2.5 hours and a few of the other comments on here (not you Danger) are amping the event up a bit.
I realise it's always hard to get the balance right to provide a competition that satisfies a range of rider skills but wonder where this event is aimed at.

Seen the dates now and can't do round one either but I'm in for the other two, have to practice not falling off the bike for more than 10 minutes then....

Danger
11th June 2009, 13:02
Tony can answer as its his event but my take is that its as serious as you want to make it for yourself.
I like to do the Ironman because I just treat it like a non stop trail ride for 3-4 hours, don't really expect to win because I'm not serious and I don't train and would rather trail ride if there was one on the same day anyway, tend to get more riding in at a trail ride, but the fact it is 3-4 hours non stop gives me incentive to get out on the bike for a few weeks before hand for a bit more fitness building to try and last the distance non stop. If the ride is only 2 hours like Powers so called Ironman class at his two man events I find the challenge and value is just not there for me. If its less than 3 hours I'll probably just help out on the day rather than participate although 2.5 hours might just get me out there as I have no bike fitness currently, we will see, and aiming to finish solidly provides incentive to get time on the bike.
I've had many friends who have never raced before participate in pairs, it gives them something to aim towards also, but many of them would not be capable of riding 3-4 hours non stop.
You might get Karl Power and Chris Birch battling at the front of the field. Don't let that put you off. There is always some one faster, slower, more or less serious than your self.

OK Iain looking back through the thread I see where you are coming from and you were intending to do the no mates class and it might be your first race. Perhaps a no mates class of 2 hours and a Ironman of 3 hours would be ideal for both of us but probably unlikely. Tony has set it in the middle at 2.5 hours and perhaps we should both just be happy with that?

REDRIDER
11th June 2009, 14:54
I havent entered events like this previously neither has my brother but were into it, I know of others that aren't race experienced and will be giving it a go. Like danger said its as serious as you want to take it, I personally will be out for a bit of fun and to beat my brothers lap times that will shut one of us up for good.

chop
11th June 2009, 14:58
i think youll find in the ironman class anything over 2 hours is a challange enough for most. once most people get to the 2 hour mark traditionally most are starting to tire and loose concentration so 2 1/2 is a safe median. You can take it as sereous as you want just like any racing. 99% of the fast guys started in events like this and keep coming back because theyre fun. I started out doing xc's in these and i love them and will always continue to do them for the fun factor. I was as green as anything when i started in a powers two man and loved every minute of it even down to watching the fast guys pass me. Make sure your well hydrated and enjoy yourself.

barty5
11th June 2009, 16:56
2.5hrs should be more than enough for most havin done the gncc which 2 hours most get off and just sit not movin for the next 20 minutes. 2hrs dont sound like much when you look at a days trail riding where you can do 3-4 hrs but then you stop all the time for people to catch up etc. Lot harder than it sounds so i would just take it as easy or as hard as you can handle but most of all just enjoy yah self.

As long as my times are faster than Rupes ill be happy hahaahaha

Crisis management
11th June 2009, 18:19

I don't have a problem with 2.5 hours...3 might be stretching it :baby:......

But that wasn't really where I was coming from; I liked the intention of the 2 man in that it encouraged people to have a go that probably hadn't done so before, in the same way the GNCC is a good start point rather than doing the Dead Toad or Rut 100. I am concerned that it will get hyped up into something that will put some people off and I think that would be a pity.
As long as any grade of rider feels they can enter and enjoy it I am happy, the more people competing the better for the sport.

Ktmboy
11th June 2009, 19:53
Its still a fun event with basically the same format.

All we have changed is to make the Solo 2.5 hours (IF YOU HAVE NO MATES YOU DESERVE PUNISHMENT) and to drop the Elite class. By dropping the Elite class we are promoting this as a not so serious event.

I hear your concerns but all is good. Its not going to be a hard terrain. Generally the people that do all the rounds come out on top. Its about being consistent through out the whole series.

Grab a fellow rider and do the Two man novice.

Whats the intended format for a two man Tony? Tryin to get my son to make up a team but we've never done this (or any racing) before and he's not that keen after all our Karting years, he wants to keep it recreational.

Is it like say? 20 min laps and alternate laps on either 1 bike or a bike each?? So you ride a lap than rest a lap (while your partner is doing a lap)?

Starts will be in grids of 6 at intervals of about 30 seconds starting with the Experts,Vets, Ironman, Clubmen, Novice,Father/Son and lastly the Mixed . This way its less messy shall we say for novice riders and you don't get bottle necks going into the single tracks.

Yah, plan to sign on as early as possible before your race. We need to close off sign on about 20-30 minutes before the race flag falls.

Jeez, you guys do you know how emotionally hard this is for me and the likes of Tuna etc that we can't race...we need counciling. :crybaby:
Much rather be racing than waving a flag.

Grace is going to race, but hasn't found a team mate yet..... I'll be there with the camera, cause I can't fall off that...... :baby:........

She can do solo in the juniors, we can find a partner for her, or she can do the ladies.

One year I turned up ready to race in the loaner class(solo) and some bloke at sign on was asking for a partner. We teamed up and he was damn good. We took home the silverware in the clubbies. Never saw him again LOL.

Actually I think I may know a rider looking for a lady in the senior Mixed. Grace would be fine in there. He is ummm very good.

So lots of options.

Probably a big hassle without a RaceSync type barcode system but lap times good for recriminations & bench racing afterwards.

You really should be riding. Maybe press-gang a couple more helpers?

Yellows and blues really. No tight reds for this. The novices do the same course as the experts so its real user friendly.

We are trying to bring the race into the public domain more so hopefully we will have the race line going past the pit/public area 2-3 times per lap. Well thats my theory anyway.

Its cool fun telliman. Novice is for folks that have never done this type of event before, and if you can't find a partner do the Solo. Bloody good work out.

Me too. Does next rider's time start when he enters timing chute, or exactly when 1st rider finishes lap? In other words do you need to be 'helmet on ready to go' the moment your mate shows up?

Im thinking every team will have one wristband 'transponder' you'll need to be geared up ready to go as you see your parnter approaching, then, swap wristband/transponder and your lap will start when you pass through the timing gate. something along those line, im sure KTMboy will confirm

Ha ha. Like your style flyingCR and have been trying to feed off your (and others) excellent enthusiasm since T100. But still can't seem to kick my own arse enough to do any training, although went for a short run on Thurs night.

Was extra annoyed at self when I couldn't resist digging through T100 results looking at times of guys I've competed against before, trying to work out 'where I might have come' - IF I'd entered. Pretty keen on the idea of dead toad next month but very-vet at over 45 almost a waste of time without any training. (Trying to shame myself into action here, excuse the indulgence all)

Heh. Willing to bet your birthday cakes still don't have many candles on 'em! Without getting some decent fitness happening, body just doesn't have much endurance when past 40. After 20 years off bikes, my first GNCC I nearly bloody died, pulled off track and dropped, couldn't move for 15mins. Really got stuck into training and made a huge difference. Well todays WMCC ride( bloody good day, albeit having a rather big stack) is in the same terrain area but hopefully we will take out the very tight stuff as this just makes it hard for novices.

The Kid/ladies race will be much like the little yellow track today but 8-10 km.
Much of the senior race will be up the hill so no road crossing over by the hill climb on the way back.

Just had a guy from Taumaranui ph and they are bringing 18-20 guys up over all classes.
Hope the KBers and the Sandpit riders barr up for this.:headbang:

Yeh bad knees! Carted to many sheets of gib upstairs. They're quite bad some days but you get used to it so don't hobble that much mostly! Pain is my friend!!! LOL!!! Next day after Wires my right one decided it was to much and I haven't riden since. Sunday was my first time out since and only went for about 1 1/2 hours med pace! Although I must say the Sandpit was fair stomping. Just whooped out enough to make it fun and the sand was hard & FAAAST. Was bloody good!

See how we go on the 2 man not puting any pressure on though its Bj's first ever race and only my second so its a fun day for us??

Yeah it'll be my first if I decide to do it. Haven't commited yet but very tempted seeing as I've recovered from the lurgy and feeling fairly fit. My knees have blown too, mostly from too much club squash and have a game on Thursday, but other than that it's whether or not I go riding with the kids on Sunday or have the day to myself. Still deciding.

Bar code system is not available. You have wrist bands you swipe over a pad and then swap them over to your partner. Don't over analyse it:nono: or we go back to asking for you signiture for every lap.
